They didn't fix it in for the 07's. I'm on #2 and they problems still persists. Second gear synchro is useless until I've got about 30 miles on the car.

I am getting a new one installed today. The hard shifts into 2nd when cold is indicative of a problem. Many people here say that it's normal. I say it's common, not normal, though. (2004 6MT w/ 31,000 mi)

i had a new tranny (1-2, 2-3 synchros were bad) and clutch kit (except pressure plate) installed at ~35k miles. the first dealer i took it to found no problems on 3 seperate visits. then i switched dealers and they ordered a new one after my 1st visit. the re & re took 1.5 days. i had an FX45 as a loaner car.

the new tranny has problems shifting into 2nd when it's cold. i'm not sure if this is inherent to our 6mt's or if i have another bad apple.

what are some indications or signs for us to catch to find out if the synchros is the problem? bc when i'm driving slow off the line or in a parking lot, i'll get rattles in first gear like its metal on metal. I keep thinking its from my coilovers but if its from my tranny, then i definately want it fixed.

The powertrain warranty is a six-year warranty? I thought the only warranty on our cars was the full 60Kmi/48month warranty. I should probably look into this... '04 6MT coupe here with ~42Kmiles

uuhhhh, yes the powertrain warranty is 6 yrs/70k miles. did you not read through your owner's manual? this is very basic info that every car owner should know. that's why manufacturers provide manuals: to clearly explain all the facets of your vehicle.

I bought the car used and knew the full warranty was 4 yrs/60k miles and the dealer informed me my "warranty was almost up", so I didn't look into it further. Thus, I must have not paid attention to that part of the manual when I read through it.

Thanks for the reply... could've done with just the information and done without the attitude.

Tranny grinding 2nd mostly and 3rd sometimes in the cold. I have to switch dealers as they think my clutch is causing my gear grinding. Original tranny on the way out at 45xxx

Huh, this is strange to read this thread. The reason I didn't buy a 6MT model was because the one I drove had 42k miles on it and the trans seemed busted as hell. The auto I drove was much more solid, so I went with it.

I do prefer shifting myself, but now I know why the transmission may have been a bit damaged in the one I test drove.

I just got my original tranny replaced last week 1/17/08. It was grinding when shifting in 5th and 6th gear. The grinding started a while back (I would say for probably almost 6 months), but it got much worse. It was an issue with the synchros. The car was under 26k and i got the 04 6MT. I guess this is a pretty common issue with tranny, damn I hope the same thing will not happen with the new one.

I just brought my 05 w/39K miles in last week because of a high pitched whinning/howling noise (coming from the trans) during the first ten minutes of driving and bad synchros. The dealer said the sound was "normal" for a cold trans and the shifting was "normal." I am pissed as h#ll right now and am trying to figure out my next step is to dealer with this dealer.

Best thing to do is drop it off the night before, and take a test drive with one of the mechinics (not the service writer). This worked for me.

If you bought the car at the servicing dealer, a loaner car should be no problem.

if you are not satisfied with the level of service of the dealer in question, take your business elsewhere (assuming there are other dealers close to you). i had the same problem with my original dealer, where i bought the car. after several problems with their service, i started taking my G to a different dealer. since then, no problems. the new dealer installed my new tranny and clutch kit after my first visit.
