Any Auto Tranny issues

Hey all,

Just registered and have an important question.
Does anyone noticed any issues with AUTO tranny on G35 sedans/coupes?

Im thinking about getting early next year G35 sedan auto for my wife for now and in 2-3 years will get it from her and start to put some mods HEHE. I cant buy manual since she doesnt want it so I'll stick with auto.

A little story:
The reason I ask is I own supercharged 02 Accord V6 and from 98 to 01 and some in 02 had tranny failed even stock due to a bad/weak clutch pack, and shrapnel that breaks off due to excessive heating & clogging the valve body, so in short - the main problem with Accord V6 transmissions (98-02) is a design flaw with the bearing. Mine so far so good w/ 8psi boost, however, that should change soon since new tranny with TQ and LSD will be produced (currently testing).

So how is yours doing and Id like to hear from N/A to F/I people.

Thanks.

That's a Honda/Acura problem. The auto tranny in the G35 can take a pounding and keep on running.

So far, the only major issue with the drivetrain is premature brake wear, and Infiniti's just announced a 3yr/36k mi warranty on pads and rotors to handle that.

Hey bro, As Ryo says the tranny is a tough one. I understand it's the same box that goes in the Q and M-45, so it would have to be good.
I've had a A/T Sedan which was fine with no issues, and now have a slightly modded Coupe auto (about 300 hp at the crank) and have had no issues with this tranny.
It's mated to an adaptive algorithm which is a PITA and needs resetting periodically, but no big issue.
Good luck with getting your new G

Hey Guys

A very important question.....

If one goes wth Fi, do you guys think that our AT trannys can take 420+ crank HP continuosly.... I have heard some issues with 6MTs, espcially the early ones. Nissan (Infiniti) is now on it's 3rd major revision with the MTs; can't really powershift and keep the 6MT tranny in good shape I hear. What do you guys know about this. Should one be worried with an AT.....

This is the same trans used in the M45 and Q45. Should handle more power without issues. It's made by Jatco:

Don't forget that some safety factor is designed in. Both the Q and M are 340 hp already and higher weight, also think the Titan uses an off-shoot of the same trans. Also get an auxilary trans cooler to keep heat down- very important.Check with where you got the torque converter, they may have an opinion also. Finally, a 350z owner with 372 hp at the rear wheels and AT has it working well-I clued him in to your torque converter mod to really make it scream.

Or just get a Quaife 6 speed sequential gearbox, heh, heh:

Re: Any Auto Tranny issues

Have had my 5AT sedan now for 1year and 12,000 miles and have had zero drivetrain problems. Feels as tight and strong as the day I bought it. Only problem I have are little rattles that the dealer is currently sorting out.
I love my car!!

Re: Any Auto Tranny issues

340 CHP that M or Q running on with auto is only around
265 WHP. I was looking for at least 400WHP w/ turbo of course. I know, I know i've should've get 6spd but cant so auto with TQ would be cool. Gurgen - mucho props for conversion, by the way.

Anyone here running FI with auto on either sedan or coupe?

Re: Any Auto Tranny issues

AV6, read my previous post, there are already 350Z 5AT owners doing this with near 400 rwhp. I'd be less confident about the Infiniti 6MT with it's problems than the 5AT and its history. Driveline shock is less of a problem also. At 400hp+ to the rear wheels, I worry more about engine internals and the rear end than the trans!

Re: Any Auto Tranny issues

jcv, thanks for you input, I hope the G tranny withstand the power. I just dont want to end up with similar results with my s/c Accord where now I have to change to a better tranny to be able to push more then 270WHP. If 350z running close to 400 whp its a sign of promise and time will tell how long he would run it. Anyway, I have couple months before I get G35 so I'll pay attention to this subject. As far as internals that the first thing I would do before going FI.

Thanks ALL

Re: Any Auto Tranny issues

Generally, RWD drivetrains can handle more abuse than FWD drivetrains. The parts aren't as small and compact and crammed into the front of the car.. they're bigger and beefier to start with.

AV6 the previous Honda/Acura AT was crap. Hope their new AT is better since I also own an Accord EX V6 coupe with one- the wife's car! You can also upgrade to one of these if you get serious:
