When I say tracking I mean laguna, or thunder hill so I guess that means autocrossing/road racing...?! still new to it. this will be my first time.

Dragging and autocrossing/road racing benefit from different wheel sizes; fronts don't really matter on a drag car (though skinnier decreases rolling resistance), but you want the smallest diameter rim that will clear your brakes in the rear (fat, soft sidewalls help with traction). For autocrossing and road racing, I definitely wouldn't go over 18", and it's not cheap or easy to find a good race tire even that big. If you can dedicate a set of rims just for racing, save yourself some unsprung weight and stick with 17"s.
