G35luv, you car looks sweet.

Again, thanks for the info.
Thanks... yeah I was looking into the Nismo body kit before I got this done. But I wasn't able to fork over close to 2k for it.

Since I actually had my front bumper repainted, side mirrors, skirts and some 12" scratches on the passenger side rear wheel well all for $950 total.

Oh and for the M3 spoiler, the guy was going to throw that in for free if I brought it that day. But after seeing some peoples M3 spoilers peeling off, I decided against it.

I like them... they don't rub, which I'm surprised. I've only had 1 passenger sit in the back so far though.. so not sure what happens when I have a trunk full of luggage and 5 people in the car... As for now it's good... 245/45's in the rear and the 235/40's in the front... (it's a bit too "thin" looking, so will go with 225/45's next time.)

So I figured I'd post here.

I have a non-aero sedan and I am thinking about getting the lowers painted to match. I have spoken to one of the better body shops in my area and they said that due to the roughness of the plastic on the lowers, it is nearly impossible to get them smooth, uniform or to guarantee that the paint will stick. They basically said that it was not worth the money to get it done.

I would appreciate any feedback on this especially from people who have had their lowers re-painted.

Thanks.

BigSash, great job on your ride. It looks awesome.

I wish I knew someone that could help me do this myself but unfortunately I don't . Its good to know that it has been done successfully though.

I just have to find the right body shop (price and quality). Feels like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Thanks again everyone for the input.

Wow, he did all that with an airbrush? I plan on painting the lowers myself when I get my air tools/compressor in the Spring. I love having black for the single being it's damn easy to color match. Since the rockers and rear don't ever get impacted, I don't have to worry about flex agent in the paint. I'll probably do the front without flex agent and touch it up as necessary until I get the Aero bumper.

Did your friend just clean and prep the plastic with soap water, rubbing alcohol, and then a standard primer? or did he do some light sanding? The plastic seems rough enough for the paint to stick.

It was a while ago he had some prep i think it was alcohol based, he didn't do much sanding at all. The winter here was much harsher than usual and the lowers took a beating but only the splash guards lost a little bit of paint (to be expected) everything else was great. I think the guards are smoother though. Interior also still looks perfect (or as good as it was the day he left )

My friend came down about 110 miles to do the painting with me for which i was greatful. Before that I went to a local body shop. They said they would do it for between 300-400. I dropped the car off and they had it overnight then called me the next day and said they couldn't do it because they didn't think the paint would stick (A$$HOLES).

A lot of body shops don't know ****. Most of them don't even know what a fender roller is.

black is actually very hard to match. i was dealing w/ a company to get some custom paint, and i had to go thru 3 batches before i getting a 98% match.

i'm no expert in this, but the little research i've done, you don't need the flex (only necessary if installing the part soon afterwards). you do need to clean/prep/adhesion promoter/primer before the paint. you also have to watch the humidity. i haven't taken the time to buff yet, so i won't try to embarass myself w/ pictures.

BigSash -

Where did you get the paint?
I've been wanting to get the sides and rears painted since I already have the Aero front but the paint shops I went to wanted ~$600'sh to do the job.
I wonder if there's a place that can mix the paint and put it in a spray can so I can just paint it myself using the spray cans.

towerpaint.com, just make sure you test match before you actually spray.

I'm not too concerned an exact perfect match and not a high gloss finish. It could be flat black for all I care just as long as it's black Nissan's black Obsidan is pretty easy to match and maybe I've just been lucky when I painted my Maxima's Stillen body kit and my Gs grill. I plan on buying my paint directly from Nissan.
