Need your advice on tires for 18" Sport OEM wheels

Hi guys,

I have read through a lot of posts on tires and wheels but did not find much info on my specific question. Most wheel/tire posts deal with upgrading to aftermarket rims.

I am buying a set of 2005 18" x 7.5" sedan sport wheels from another member. The OEM tire is 235/45R18 W-rated. I have a 03.5 sedan.

What size and brand tires would you recommend for these OEM 18's? I am interested in summer tires that offer the best handling with low noise and reasonable thread life. What is the largest size I can put on these wheels to minimize the fender gap? I do not want to get into lowering the car at this stage.

I appreciate everyone's replies

I would stay as close to the overall diameter of the oem tire to keep your VDC and speedo happy.

Get a good ultra high performance summer tire in that size and see what you think. Falken, Nitto, BFG, Toyo, etc...

The person I am buying the wheels from suggested going with 245/45 since there will be a better selection of tires.

Has anyone put this size on the OEM 18" sedan sport wheels?

I know mikeee2 has put 245/45R18 Avon all seasons on his 18 sport rims. Send him a PM, I believe he is satisfied with the size even though they are a bit taller, which will close up the gap a bit. He has lots of pics also.

Hey Wayne...what's up. Yup, he's right. I do have the 245/45. Look at the below thread. It does close the gap a little and more meat on the tires than 235/45. It would look better if you don't plan to lower the car than going with 40's which increases the gap (in my opinion). But 245's does show more sidewall and your car is a little tiny bit taller.

The other thing is if you plan to lower your car later on (I did at one point with z springs, the 245/45 Avons kinda rub in the back I think unless you roll the fender. 45 series do not look that good when the car is lowered vs 40's, 35's etc.

How much did this effect your speedo or VDC?

Your speedo would read 1.3% slower with the 245 tires.
When your speedo reads 60 mph you will really be doing 60.8 mph.
Which isn't too bad.

I'm running 225/45 and they run nice and square with the OEM 18's I have.

235/45 might be a better fit overall but harder to find good tires in that size.

I am running Toyo T1-Rs

Hey Mikee and Wayne,

Thanks for that info. Mikee, I checked your link and your G looks awsome with the 18's and the 245/45's. Gives me a great sense on how my car will look. You do have me thinking about looking for a 245/40 in case I do get the bug to lower the car.

Wayne, your 07 looks great. I love the stock wheels on the 07.

G35papa, how is the fender gap with this size tire? Are those Toyo's summer tires? I had great luck with Toyo's Proxes on my Maxima's. Got over 100,000miles on two sets of Toyo's.

I can't really help you out with the wheel gap, I'm dropped on coilovers so I have very little gap

T1-Rs are a step up in the Proxes series. I loved them so much on my stockers that I put a set on my latest wheels as well. They have a 280 treadwear so they arent the longest lasting but I have yet to run a set down so the numbers are still not tested with me.

Very sticky tires in dry weather and good handling in the rain as well.

if ur looking to fill the gap then forget 7.5 wheel with 45 offset, no matter how wide the tires are.
