Need advice . . . on everything . . .
Need advice . . . on everything . . .
So the questions are about maintenance, fluids, etc. Specifically, I have a 2005 G35X, bought new, with now about 20K miles.
My driving consists of daily driving (20 miles highway, 80 mph and 20 miles suburb traffic per day), style is mild to moderate spirited (rarely get past 4000 rpm, average 20 mpg, but still have fun). I plan on several autocross events this year (2 mile track, moderately spirited driving, max 80 mph). Last year I went and noticed no wear/tear on stock pads/rotors.
So, so far I have done synthetic oil changes every 5K miles (first at 1500). Started with Mobil 1 and last one switched to German Castrol. Still have stock pads/rotors/tires, all with about 50% life left.
Here's my plan:
This spring, before autocrosses:
1) Continue oil changes every 5K with German Castrol Syntec. I;m happy there.
2) What oil filter would be best for me? Mobil 1 or Purolator Pure One? I've read about the short and tall ones. Is the only difference size? I currently use 5.5 quarts for an oil change, how much more will I need with the larger filter? (I assume like 5.6 or 5.7). Anyone know a specific part number for either?
3) Brake pads -- ok, I like the stock pads, in terms of performance and noise. If anything, I would like the same or better performance (along with same noise or less, same dust or less). I've read conflicting reports on the Hawk HPS. I've read good reviews on project mu and endless. Given my driving needs, what do you guys recommend? right now I'm leaning towards project mu b-force.
4) Rotors. Rotors are fine now, but would like to upgrade to drilled/slotted (slight performance gain, looks). I'm leaning towards powerslot. Thoughts?
5) Brake fluid -- planning on Valvoline SynPower Brake Fluid, more for less fade while on the track. thoughts?
6) On top of all of this, I plan a stop at the dealership for AT fluid/filter. Stupid question: Is there a filter to change, or is it just replacing fluid?
7) Lastly, where's the best place to get this stuff? I found the German Castrol at Autozone. for 1-5, I typically buy stuff and take to my local shop.
that's about it. all advice and comments are greatly appreciated. I've spent 2 hours going through previous posts, and the oil filter and brake pads/rotor decisions have me stumped -- so many choices! thanks, Kash

no one has any thoughts? I've searched the forums, read the posts and everyone seems to have their own favorite -- but no clear winner. Some people love Hawk HPS, others think they're a huge mistake. Project mu and ebc seem to be well liked. Some insight would be helpful here . . . .

true, it's a lot to ask. so here's a single question: if I'm looking specifically for project mu or ebc brake pads, where's the best place to get them? I did a google search for project mu and found their distributor list -- not as helpful as I thought (lots of honda sites). thoughts?
