03/04 > 05/06 I like the oem front end better, but the nismo front end trumps all.
03/04 > 05/06 I like the older headlights better.
03/04 > 05/06 I like the Ti trim better than the Al because of the way it wraps around.
03/04 < 05/06 I like the gauges on the newer ones better.
03/04 > 05/06 I like the hood better with the mini-cowl over the single line newer one

All car manufacturers make some changes over the life of a model. I don't think it is enough to be called a second generation.

Adding to ttrank comments- Making changes to a current model does not valid being called a next generation. Only if there is a complete redesign then its a next generation vehicle. Thats the industry norm

How about this.....
When Infiniti calls it "All new", we give it the next generation... So we're on Gen 2 now....

2005 Infiniti G35 Offers Significant Enhancements
It was a marketing ploy by Nissan to make it seem significantly different from the 03-04's... Originally Posted by ABQ_G35

A new gen car (not just G rides) must have a significant change in the frame and/or body panels. The 03-04 is similar enough to the 05-06 body styling. Yes there were many small changes but no major changes (lights & a bumper don't count enough for a next gen). The frame is the same as far as I know so that doesn't count either. Engine or power ratings do not constitute a new gen either. It all evolution until the frame or body panels change.

I see your side of it too, evolution resulting in the current design.Originally Posted by machavez702

That's how I see it. You really need a complete new car for a generation change. To the casual observer, the 03-06 are pretty much the same - same basic look, same drivetrain, same interior, same options, etc. From what I understand, the 07 has a new frame, mostly new motor, new interior, options, and of course new look.Originally Posted by machavez702

The changes from the 04 to 05 sealed the deal for me.

Changes happen, the Maximas previous (5th?) gen changed engines, from a 3.0 to 3.5 gaining a little over 30hp...body even got some slight changes I think to the tails, wheels, and front bumper, point is gen stayed the same.

IMO, I have to disagree that 05-06 was the 2nd Gen of the G35.
I drove the 04 for 3.5 years and while there would a bunch of improvements made for the 05-06 model years, it was, at its core, the same basic vehicle as the 03. Each model year brought improvements, some big some small, to the G35 thru 03 to 06. Ttrank outlined some of those improvements/changes.
I waited for the 04 model because of the addition of the LSD on the 6MT for 04. But I did not look at the 05 when they came out and say..I wish I had waited alittle longer. While the 05 and 06 were both nicer than my 04 in the equipment levels IMO, I could not see the trading in just to gain intelligent key or something like it.
Speaking as one who has now traded in my 04 G to get a 07 G, I can honestly say there is a huge difference between the two. I drove 05 and 06 Gs and were/are just a modification of my 04.
My two cents.

2006 -> 2007. the engineers wrote a new book.

ABQ_G35 I hope you are ready to read a novel.
I understand your position, and it is a reasonable argument... but I would like to leave my opinion.
I think everyone on the forum will agree to the following similarities between 03/04 and 05/06
VQ
Frame/Chassis (which im not even sure has been changed on the new G)
70% identical body panels (Exceptions include minor adjustments to front clip to accomodate the new headlighs)
If you think about it, how many m3 generations are there for the e36 m3? how bout the e46 and e92 for that matter? that would be 5-6 different generations, but we all know that the e36, e46, and e92 M3's comprise the 3 generations. Have you seen the difference between the early model and late model e46? a true enthusiast could definately point out the differences to you. Minor or not. Major, IMO, would have to constitute a new engine/chassis.
I personally give you respect for owning an 05, personally i could not afford an 05 so i bought an 04, in retrospect, I made the right decision for myself and I love every aspect of my 04 with the exception of maybe the 20horse, but I am gearing towards FI which is more practical for the lower tuned engine.
You should be proud to be in the same generation as the 03/04 models
1st. Generation, the dawn of a new breed of HPV's, the dawn of the G
IMO the OG's... original G's
Also...can you really put your car next to a nismo 04' and not think how badly you want that kit?
Finally, I'm not into the luxury feel of things, I bought an HPV and thats what I got. If wanted luxury I woudlve bought myself a lexus or mercedes.
