2005 G35 Sedan

Does anyone think Infiniti will move the seat controls on the 2005 model? I really want the G35 but with all the peeps that have problems with seating discomfort I'm a bit hesitant to rush and buy a 2004.

I'm sure many owners did not experience any discomfort prior to purchasing even after extended test-drives. The new car euphoria kind of takes over and when you love the car as much as most do, it's hard to see any fault before you buy it.

I just wish I could test-drive the G35 for about a month. I'm still suprised there isn't an after market mod to address the issue. Maybe a flexible bracket would help.

I know this is wishful thinking but it'd be nice if Infiniti allowed owners of 03-04 G35s to upgrade the seats to 2005 models at a nominal cost in the event the seat controls are moved to the side.

What to do??

Buy it, it's not a problem with me, I've had mine for 2 months now!

Edit: And I agree with sailor, they are very convenient, my last car, you had to reach down the side, and you couldn't make even a slight adjustment while driving like you can with this car!

No problem for me. I have had it 3 months and enjoyed every day of it. I even took an extended road trip from California to Texas and back. over 3,500 miles and not one problem.

Go for it. Start enjoying the best ride around...

Re: 2005 G35 Sedan

Be cautious, it bothers me tremendously. I was given a G35 for 4 days while my Q45 was being repaired and I never noticed any discomfort. I liked the G35 so much, I traded the Q45. I drove my new G35 for probably 2000 miles before the problem manifested.

Re: 2005 G35 Sedan

I've had my 2003.5 G35 premium/auto 9monthe and 7,000 extremely enjoyable miles and really have no problem with the driver's seat comfort at all. As a matter of fact the seat controls being where they are is extremely convenient especially when balanced by the passenger seat controls, easy to readjust for a "up close or far back" passenger re-adjustment when they get out and you are solo again and as I do hate misaligned front seat positions. Comfort probably depends more on how wide you are across the bottom and long-legged you are than anything else, so try an extended test drive, pointing out ths particular concern to your sales rep., they SHOULD surely understand and should, with notice, be able to set you up with a loaner for over-night. Have a blast driving your new 2004 G35, frankly IMHO it seems unlikely that a change would occur in 2005, and sounds like you do want it bad, so just do not let this complaint from a minority overly concern you.

Re: 2005 G35 Sedan

A lot of people have no problem from this. However, if you are one of the people who does, it will seriously downgrade or possibly destroy your enjoyment of this otherwise fine car! These are the ONLY seats out of dozens of cars I been in that have EVER caused me ANY problems. Other than the driver's seat problem it has been my favorite car of any I have ever owned. I would advise a minimum of an overnight test drive so you can put some serious hours in the seat BEFORE you spend your $30-$35,000. Have them give you a loaner for at LEAST an overnight test.

Re: 2005 G35 Sedan

I have 2 herniated disks in my back and shooting pain down my right leg periodically. All I need is a car seat that makes this problem chronic instead of periodic so you can see why I'm so paranoid about this issue.

I guess another option might be to find a rental car company that rents G35s and maybe even rent it for an entire weekend.

I'm normally an impulse buyer and would have bought this car last weekend but this seat issue really has me thinking. 2005s will be out in 10 months which really is not that long but there is no assurance Infiniti will correct the seat control position...can't imagine they'd let it go another year will all the complaints they must be getting.

I've read all the long-winded discussions so it's not an isolated problem though most people do not experience the extreme discomfort.
Edited by archerlane on 12/13/03 11:27 AM.

Re: 2005 G35 Sedan

Then maybe this isn't the car for you... myself I have had no problems even spent 2 1/2 hrs straight behind the wheel in total comfort...

Nothing is ever for sure it's up to you I don't even notice the controls but I don't have a bad back and I'm not fat.

I agree with alderran. If you have doubts about the car and don't think you will be satisfied, don't buy it. The car isn't a perfect car for everyone. If you need a car that has better seats for health reasons, you should look at other options. Have you driven the Maxima? Lexus IS300? BMW 3-series? Audi A4/6? these are comparable cars around the same price range.

Re: 2005 G35 Sedan

No problem for me after 13 months and 12,000 miles. I think Infiniti has a TSB in which they will bolster the seats in the event of discomfort, but I'm not sure. You might check with the dealer.

11,000 miles, three straight 10 hour shots of driving as well, and not a single problem. Many people have noticed that with the wallet gone, it's ameliorated. Otherwise, check out the thread re: seat discomfort-- I think the poll showed overwhelmingly that there was no discomfort, and only a tiny, tiny fraction still found it uncomfortable after the TSB was performed.

Re: 2005 G35 Sedan

GeoBau, I think some of the seat issues are related to the way it's adjusted, it is a lot different than what I had been used to, seems to have way more adjustments than my Mustang had, much more comfortable too!!!

Re: 2005 G35 Sedan

The TSB #03018 is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound - better than nothing, but entirely insufficient to address the problem. To whoever said " I'm not fat" - guess what, I'm not fat either. I am 5'10" tall, 195 pretty solid lbs. from freq. trips to the gym. It has been documented that people as small as 145lbs. have encountered this problem, while some others as heavy as 250lbs. have NO trouble from the seats. It is a design flaw that fortunately doesn't negatively affect a huge percentage of people. Be grateful if you are unaffected, because it SUCKS for those of us who are!

Re: 2005 G35 Sedan

I've had my 2004 automatic for nearly 3 months, and I haven't had any issues.

Personally, the only issues I've had is because of the console. My previous car didn't have one, and there was room to put items like camera's there that I don't have now.

I'll know more by the end of the year, though. I have a 600 mile each way trip coming up, followed by a 350 mile each way trip.
