'06 Sedan AT Oil Consumption Gathering
for those of you adding oil before oil change, how do you know your level?... I've never understood how people are able to determine they are low... my dipstick is completely useless... the oil level is impossible to determine – oil is mucked up all over the length of it... there is no clear concise line that the oil stops... in fact, it always looks way overfilled because it just splattered across the bottom six inches.
I know mine is not unusual... no one likes these dipsticks. Unless the 06 is different. I know they changed it in 07 but I think pre 07 are all the same aren’t they?

1. 37k
2. 7,500k
3. Amsoil AMO 10w40 / HDD S3k
4. If i drive it normally there is no consumption, with hard driving the most I've seen it go down is about .5qt after 7500 miles
btw, if you wait about 10 minutes to check your oil level, the dipstick will give you a very clear reading.
oops.. wait a sec, i have a 6mt.. dang

The manual also states to wait 10 minutes before checking your oil. I also noticed that with synthetic oil it's harder to determine where the line actually ends. I use a paper towel to see where the oil level is, that works pretty well for me.
I'm hoping to gather 100 votes on the poll, so far it is only at 62. There should be more than 62 '06 AT owners around!
So far, we have a little over 20% of '06 AT owners in the excessive to "somewhat of a concern" oil consumption range.
Keep it coming guys. Let's see if this percentage will go up or down with more votes to the poll.
Thanks,
Nelson

I want to participate, but have a dum question(probably the answer is in the manual, just haven't had time to check). What is the tolerance of oil from the high range on the dipstick to the low range. My guess is around a quart. Let me know and I will participate. Thanks guys.

Thanks for the confirmation. I drive 95% highway miles, run Synthetic and change the oil @ 6k, it appears I lost 1/2 quart when I had the oil changed. Therefore is the best answer to the poll, No oil lost? justdon't want to adversly affect the results. I personally feel the synthetic breaks down around this 6K point and it is more the reason, than is motor burn off.
So far we have 67 voters, and still have ~20% of us having concerning to "somewhat concerning" consumption rate.
For those who voted to "Less than 1000 miles per quart of oil used" & "1000 to 2000 miles per quart", what was your break-in method?
1.Drove like you stole it.
2. Drove normally as if no break-in is required.
3. Per Owner's Manual Recommendation.
4."Moto-man" Method.
Your input will be greatly appreciated. And hopefully, we can see if different kind of break-in method does or does not affect oil consumption.
Thanks,
Nelson

No consumption, breakin in consisted of 300-400 mile highway trips(Iknow not what the book prescribes, but it is the life my baby will lead until she hits 300K in 5-6 years), changed to full synthetic for my third change around 8500 miles.
