Bad Door Seals?
Bad Door Seals?
I have a 03.5 6mt with premium. The issue I have with the car is that if the sunroof is vented (tilted up) and I am driving at speeds of 40mph or more there is a large amount of outside air that blows though the door handle and all of the window controls. This happends on every door. Its bad enough that I can feel the air from the rear doors blowing in my shoulder in neck while driving. I know that some air coming though is normal due to the pressure difference in the car. But not this much. I have NEVER had this problem before in a car. This is the only thing I can HATE about this car. It makes it feel cheep to me. I hate that knowing I spent 29K on a new car. What is worse is I went to the dealer and tried to have it fixed and the replaced all of the weather sthipping around the doors. The problem sill presisted. I took the service manager for a ride and showed him the problem. I agreed that it was bad. And he had never noticed this on a G before and never heard any complaints. So we took a ride in an 03 loaner G that they had there to compare. To my amazement it was WORSE than mine. I came to the conclusion that this is normal for g's but it still is crappy. Have any of you guys and girls had this problem? Exspecially you all not on the West coast. I can imagine 15 degree air blowing trhough my door. As it is right now, at night on 40 degree nights its enought to overwhelm my heater when set to 75 degrees. What do you all think. Sorry about the length.
Re: Bad Door Seals?
If it's so cold, then why do you have the sunroof open at all, it will create air flow issues, from my experience with sunroof's! I have had only one other car with a sunroof, and I know I could feel air similar to what you mention, while it was open! Do you get the cold air with it closed? That would be a problem IMO!

As ABQ_G35 says, if you have the roof open, it will cause a lot of air movement through anywhere that may have a vent to the outside. Mine does this too, altho not too badly, I think this is normal to an extent.
If the air leak is too bad, it might be that you don't have the proper weather barrier in the door, or there's a hole in it.
Have you had any work done on the door lately? perhaps for window regulator, rattles, speaker, grease on the window. It may be that the barrier wasn't put back properly.

A guy goes to a doctor and says to 'em,
"Doc, whenever I eat raw Jalapenos, I end up with bad stomic problems, can you help me?"
The doctor ponders this, and then responds, "Have you considered the option of not eating raw Jalapenos?" :-)
Not to flame, but why don't you just turn down your heat, and leave the sunroof closed? I wonder if that might have been an intended feature. On days when its hot, some vented air might be just the thing if you have your sunroof open and don't want your AC on.
Reguardless, i havn't noticed this on my G at all. I'll test it out the next time I go for a ride.

Re: Bad Door Seals?
I dont have the sunroof all the way open, just tilted. I like the sound of air blowing past the car. I have never been in a car that did this. Accords dont do this? Civics either, not newer ones anyway. BMW dosent either. Ill have to check the weather barriers. Just seems cheap to me. I didnt check 04 G's, maybe the fixed the issue already. Ill just have to ride with the sun roof all the way closed on colder evenings.
Re: Bad Door Seals?
I drive with my sunroof open (all the way, not just tilted up) when the speeds are upto about 40, 45mph. Like you, I have the heat turned on. I have not noticed any issues with leaks through the door panel etc.
Have you tried leaving the sunroof open fully? I will try with partial and tell you on my car

Its too cold for me to leave it open, I just like the vent. With it all the way open there is too much air movement to feel any that is coming out of the door. I can only notice it when its tilted.
Re: Bad Door Seals?
Mine does that too. I have a 04'. Whenever I open any of the window slightly, air will start blowing through my window control panel. As soon as I close whichever window I opened, the flowing air will stop immidiately. I think it's normal, may be. Because I am used to my other car that have fallen windows on many occasions.
Give us an update on the fix. Thanks.

I just got my 2003 sedan back from the dealer. They did the door
insulation TSB for door/window rattles. I actually took the print
of the pdf document pointed to in the TSB section
"is your door still rattling? My service advisor said
that they really insulate the door for this TSB. The air coming
thru my window controls seems to be much less now. I tilted
my sunroof and did not notice much air at all from the window
contolls.

Re: Bad Door Seals?
I checked again today and the I could clearly feel the wind coming through the door area. I guess I was too busy driving fast and had my hands on the wheels in the past .
It is strange and I wonder if it causes more noise to enter the cabin.

Re: Bad Door Seals?
These vents arnt the issue. I can feel the air from the BACK door blowing on my neck and shoulder. Granted I am kinda tall and have the seat almost in the back seat. Ill have to get the TSB and see what my dealer can do about it.
