Re: M3 Killer

Hey thank, guys! My perception has been that there isn't as much interest in the Vortech unit on this board as there is on FreshAlloy and My350Z so I haven't been keeping y'all as up-to-date as I should.

Re: M3 Killer

I called Vortech today about their SC kit for the Sedan Auto and the sales rep was asking me if I wanted to be the test car for this kit. Apparently, they are looking for test cars so they can develop it specifically for the Auto Sedan. However, I live in Northern Cal. otherwise i would volunteer my car.
If anyone who lives down Southern Cal. w/ an Auto Sedan interested in this, Pretty Pls. volunteer your car so they can develop the kit!

Re: M3 Killer

how much is it for the parts?

price for typical installation?

is this a high maintance mod, lots of work after install, or its it a typical manufacturer sc?

Actually I'm really interested but I'm being kept up to date by your maxima buddy blu on the maxima boards. Anyway, keep us up to date. I'm getting a vicarious thrill from your supercharged adventure (until I get my G35 sedan )

Re: M3 Killer

Interesting... I know that even the 5AT 350z requires significant custom work with the current Vortech 350Z kit to make it fit, so getting the 5AT sedan to work will be very interesting--especially with the whole fan issue.

In retrospect, I guess Vortech should thank me for being the unofficial, unsolicited guinea pig for the 6MT sedan. I never actually talked to them--but they expressed a great deal of interest when they last spoke to my installer. It's clear that they didn't know the specific differences between the 350Z and the G35. For one thing, the pinout diagram for the piggyback ECU was totally worthless (because the wire order is apparently different between the G35 and the Z). A number of other subtle changes were required as well--but my installer was fabulous and had a great "figure it out" attitude.

I couldn't be happier at this point. But, of course, disaster is only one blown engine away so it's still a qualified success.

Re: M3 Killer

To answer questions about cost and maintenance.

I think any supercharger requires you to spend a few minutes every so often (once a week, maybe) just doing a visual inspection to make sure that belts are working fine, etc. I also think it is wise to replace spark plugs with regularity (every 10K miles) rather than just leaving them in for the 100K that you would with a stock G. The Vortech kit uses the same oil as the engine, so you just need to make sure to get regularly scheduled changes every 3000 miles.

As far as cost goes, you can contact www.cpracing.com to see what they'll sell the unit for. I got an extra good deal because mine was the first unit they had sold and Vortech was offering incentives to its authorized dealers who would commit to early purchase.

Install cost will vary, but you should plan on about 20 hours of labor and I wouldn't even consider having someone do it who doesn't have the software necessary to program the ECU piggyback chip while tuning the car on a dyno.

Re: M3 Killer

badtz: I believe your right. At the moment the Vortech kit is not CARB legal. Hopefully that changes.

Re: M3 Killer

I'll have to double check, but I have a G35x, which is currently only available in 5AT. When I was putting in the K&N drop-in, I don't recall seeing a regular fan, only an electric one. I check tomorrow morning.
