NEW 6MT at only 29K miles!!!

I have 29K miles and about two weeks ago I noticed that going into and down shifting into fifth gear was grinding. I took it into Infiniti Mission Viejo today 12-16-03 and they confirmed I need a new 6MT tranny. They have one on order. Man I double clutch and everything. Most of my miles are freeway in 6th gear. This has me kind of worried when will the next tranny go. Has anyone else had to replace a 6MT tranny with like miles?

Had mine replaced at 5.5K. Started with occassional inability of 2nd gear syncro to work on quick shifts and then 6th gear started to grind for no earthly reason. Took it in, they agree'd bam new tranny, current one shifts better IMO.

Dang straight, it's all about the glory of helping. Who have you helped today?

There have been a few reports of 6MT replacements. No word on if it's overrepresented yet though. Good luck with the new one. You shouldn't need to double clutch however, unless you're racing *a lot*.

Now you guys have me worrying about my 2nd gear synchro again.... it's probably grinded 10 times and I'm at 6000 miles. Clutch is at the floor in 1st gear, and as I recall happens when I let the rpms drop too much by not shifting right away (from some really slowass driver in front of me at a stop light). Anyways, when I finally get around to throwing it into 2nd gear, maybe 2-3 seconds after I put the clutch to the floor, the gear grinds. I was writing this off as normal behavior. Should I have the dealer look at it, or will they just drive it around as say everythings okay?

Re: NEW 6MT at only 29K miles!!!

For me, shifting into 1st gear while moving can sometimes cause a bit of notchiness. I had the same problem with my 6 speed Maxima, only it was much more prenounced in that car.

I wouldn't care so much, because i can just wait to shift into 1st when I stop, but the other day some guy in a BMW got ahead of me by waiting for me to shift to 2nd, and then gunning it. I caught up to him, but it took a while as I crawled through 2nd gear.

Friends with manuals have told me that they have this problem too. But one buddy of mine in particular had a 5 speed maxima, and currently has a 6MT 350Z telld me that he has never had this problem. Is this broken, or a normal action?

I would definetly take it to the dealer. Better safe than sorry. The nice thing about this entire ordeal is that Infiniti Mission Viejo has been great. For that matter Infiniti has been great. I was at the Acura dealer the other day, that TL is sure nice.... What am I thinking why would I ever want a FWD car again, I have the best car out there.
