Windshield

Is the glass on the G35's windshield different from US cars? I got hit by a stone today, made a pretty good chip, I haven't had one like that in years, or did I just luck out and get a bigger stone this time? I had it repaired, just two tiny nicks there now! Damn, that thing came out of nowhere, the closest car in front of me was at least a 1/4 mile away! Damn, thats the second time I got a stone on that road with no car right in front of me!

Re: Windshield

I had to replace my windshield after ~3 weeks of picking up the car due to a rock hitting the windshield...SUV in front of me, several car lengths. I wondered the same thing when it happened as the impact did not seem so great. I've had windshields get cracked this way before on other cars but I was surprised this occurrence did the damange that it did. The damage was very near my line of sight, and the car was brand new, so I replaced the windshield vs. getting it fixed.

There was a mixup with insurance company/repair places and some dude showed up at my house and started to repair the windshield...until I saw what he was doing and told him to cease and desist. He said I should get it repaired because it will happen again and again to this windshield...but I was so pissed at him for attempting repair when he shouldn't have that I didn't ask him if he had direct experience with these windshields.

No problems since the replacement, which was 4 months ago, but no collisions with rocks either. I'm glad I don't do much highway driving on my commute to work and I now try to be a little more careful when driving behind SUVs, since I think they are more likely to kick up rocks.

Re: Windshield

Mine was above the line of sight, or else it would have been replaced, it looks okay, you always get some "nicks" anyway, no way around it! What the hell did that guy mean with this windshield? I know I asked if the glass was different, but after posting that, I realized, the glass has to meet USDOT standards, regardless of where it is made to be sold here! the last time I took a "hit" it was just as loud as this one, but just made a tiny almost unnoticeable nick! Seems to me the angle of this windshield should deflect more than take a direct hit! My insurance said if the repair didn't hold, then I would pay my deductible and replace it!
