Tire Pressure Sensor

Sorry if this was answered already, but a search didn't show up any relevant results. I plan on getting new rims for my 04 G35x sedan and wanted to know if those of you with rims (in the Northeast, anyway), what do you do in the winter? By this I mean do you put stock tires back on or leave your aftermarket rims on through the winter? I ask because of the TPMS. I want to keep my aftermarket wheels on during most of the time, and then put back my stock wheels in the winter, but because of the sensors, I'm not sure if I should keep on switching them (which I don't know if its easy to do or if they can get damaged from switching a lot) from one set of wheels to the others or buy a new set of 4 (for about $240 online). If I get a new set, I can just leave them on the aftermarket wheels and have the dealer or installer reprogam the sensor reader in the car. Any suggestions/feedback on what you think is best? Thanks and again, sorry if a repost!

I don't bother switching them. For most of the year I check the pressure myself.

Xman,

so if you don't have sensors on your aftermarket wheels, doesn't your TPMS light engage on your dash because it doesn't read the sensors in the tires? I've read on the forums that for some people the light comes on for a while and then shuts off. Does it come back on intermittently, or does it stay off always? Thanks. If I don't need to buy new sensors or switch them, that will be awesome!

^ Some people not everyone. My TPS never came on when I didn't have them as far as what to do depends on how important you find the TPS it'll give you peace of mind to buy another set for your aftermarket wheels but then again they don't always fit aftermarket wheels. Either way you can always keep an eye out for your tire pressur yourself.

I didn't want to drop $ on an extra set, so I took mine out of my OEM rims (used for winter setup) and put them into my summer rims, since they were such a big investment for me.

Yes, in the winter, without the TPS's in, after about 45 minutes of driving, your light will come on. Once you shut your car off & restart it, it resets and will only come on again after another 45 min. of driving.

Perry - yours might not come one because do you ever truly drive your car on the island for a duration longer than 45 min?!

^ Actually i'm a little concerned I might go down to the dealer check them out to make sure they are working. I brought 19" M45 wheels and tires but sold the rims and mounted my Milanos on the tires with the sensors and I never asked if the TPS were reset with the car. Plus as you mentioned I hardly ever drive longer than 45 minutes to really tell just by letting some of the air out myself...

Last summer it would go on after a long drive. This year so far it hasn't gone off. Go figure.

I left mine in my stock wheels which I use in the winter. As said above they TPS light comes on after about 45 minutes of driving. It's slightly annoying, but you get used to it.

So if you do buy new ones, do you have to program them or does the car automatically pick them up?

They need to be programed by the dealer.
