Towing with the sedan..anyone?

I may start my 6 year old into carting and since I don't know if he will get into it heavily, I don't want to invest into getting a truck. I can't tow **** with with the XB(wife's) so it will have to be done with the G sedan. My buddy will build me the trailer at the cost of the materials only and I will go as far as adding same wheels as my sedan(19 milanos) just in a smaller dimension, then paint same color as the car. may even add sedan lights on the trailer.

Do you guys think I will encounter any problems with the car, it's really low and we are thinking about doing a hidden hitch behind the plate(if possible)?

any input would help.

There are a couple places that make a hidden hitch kit for the G. I believe you can tow up to 1k lbs.

that's a lot of work for just trying out the hobby...

towing is gonna kill your suspension too... you may need to add custom retrofit air bags for support when towing....

what i'd rather do is invest in an older truck do the towing... g/l on your endeavor...

It won't kill your suspension towing from time to time. It will wear out your struts faster but the car is rated for 1k lbs towing for a reason.

I purchased my hitch from etrailer . com. I wouldn't build a trailer. Find one on ebay or the local traders. Or get an open trailer to see if the kid enjoys it. Better yet, not knowing where you live, find an indoor place to try first. Chicago Indoor Racing has a great junior program and is substantially less than what you are about to spend. I think the junior drivers class hovers around $300 (includes cart and helmet use). If he likes it keep doing the indoor or spend more.

I have three children. My experience has been that what may seem like a solid interest is often just a passing interest. Try the cheap route first.

SInce I am only paying for the materials and my buddy (works for a well known wheel manf) both of these guys are getting things done for almost the price of what I would pay retail, besides I can always use the trailer for other things. the cost as I was tolds was less than $500. I've asked my Step-son about his intrest and he claims to also want to do it. so I buy 1 Kart that they can both use.

Thanks for all the input guys. I really do appreciate it. still need to make a final decision.

I live in LA and

Yes, I frequently use my 05 6mt to tow a trailer. The trailer is a small motorcycle trailer constructed from aluminum and weighs about 325 lbs. Loaded with the bike the total weight is about 850 lbs. It works out okay, but I wouldn't want to tow more than that with the car.

I used to tow my kart with my 05 6mt before I sold the kart. It worked fine.

Not yet, it will take a while. buy cart and equp, fab trailer, gett into the schene etc....hope the little buggers don't loose interest.

They fisrt wanted dirt bikes but my car is too low to even go thru any dirt road, just to get to a spot where they can ride.

we made the mistake of not doing re-search when we bought the XB...towing is not recomended AT ALL.(not enough power anyway)

I just meant as far as the car goes. You are on your own for the rest!
