Loud noise at start. What could it be??

I have a 2003 G35 with about 50K miles on it. This morning when I went to start the car it took me two tries to get the engine to start. Once the engine did start it sounded like a diesel. I rev'd it up a little and things started to get better. I took it for drive and it drove fine ever since.

What could this be? I worry because I don't want to get stranded somewhere when I have my wife and daughter in the car.

Could it be low oil? I will check that this afternoon. Other then that, could it be a bad sensor, coil or plug?

Any thoughts?

Could be tons of different things from old plugs, bad gas, dirty air filter, dirty MAS, low fuel pressure, bla bla bla.

Make sure all the regular maintenance is done and don't worry until it happens again.

How long had the car sat prior to starting? If it has been sitting for awhile, it could of been the timing chain. It takes a moment for the tensioner to build oil pressure.
