Mods for G35x

Where do I start? I'm a novice. This car has been on the road for a month now. Not quite through the 1200 mile break-in. Everything is stock. Any suggestions/directions are appreciated. Thinking of starting with the exhaust system.

Re: Mods for G35x

It depends on what you're going for...
I would go for a few simple mods that do not affect the warranty

K&N Filter, Z-Tube, EGK

I've had my G35X for a little more then three weeks. I got my G in Diamond Graphite with the same options as you have. I drove a 3 series before this car. The one thing I think this car is lacking in is handling. To much luxury not enough sport.
The first thing I want to change on the car are the springs. I spoke with a technician at Eibach today. He said a spring kit should be out in the next 4-6 weeks. That will make a huge difference in the ride of our car according to the Tech. Lowering the car about an inch and giving it a stiffer ride should be a big improvement. I believe the car has ample power but can't handle the road as well as I would like it to. I think this is due to higher ride height and softer suspension. Another person said a sway bar would make a good edition to helping out with handling.
In the mean time, I have on order a set of 7 grounding wires. According to people in the forum it makes a nice inexpensive mod. I also ordered a K&N Typhoon and a Z350 intake tube. I hope to have all of it on the car by the end of the month.

I'll let you know how it goes.

If it's a G it's 4 me!

You've got Eibach R&D'ing a spring set specific to the "X" because it uses the front suspension out of the FX sport ute. It is different than other G's and the Z. Meaning it will need a front sway bar specific to the X. Not the end of the world I know of a company that can custom bend one for you.

Re: Mods for G35x

Thanks for the link. I emailed them to find out how much it would cost. I'll post the price in the event others are interested.

Re: Mods for G35x

Thanks dnapoli,

Definitely keep me posted. Do you plan to keep stock tires on?

In the mean time I'm ordering service manual etc... to learn everything about this machine. Based on other posts I was thinking about a Stillen for some growl.

Re: Mods for G35x

I was going to ask how people feel about the stock tires. I've been driving BMWs for the past 10 years they came with Dunlop tires which I was always happy with and when it came time to replace them I got Toyo tires. How do you feel about the stock tires?
I live in NJ and part of the reason I got the X was because my BMWs would get stuck in flat parking lots if the snow was wet and 2-3 inches thick. I may get a 2nd set of rims off ebay or this site and put performance tires on the car for the summer and keep these tires for the winter. What are your thoughts?

Re: Mods for G35x

Having driven the G with the G-Y A/S tires, I'd say they're marginal in most conditions and only decent on dry roads. The Bridgestones on the loaner I had were better in the snow, but I'm not sure what they are like in summer, but they seemed quieter. I'm really happy with my Pilot Sport A/Ss that I replace the G-Ys with though!

Re: Mods for G35x

You've read my mind. I live in NJ too. The stock G-Ys were fine in the snow we had in December but I'm also thinking about some chrome rims and summer tires. I've also had good experience with Bridgestones in the snow on my Subaru.
