My new (1,000 miles or so) AT Sedan makes a strange noise (from day one) every time it is driven. That is, starts up fine - sounds great ... place in DRIVE and move off to say 5 MPH or so and then there is this mechanical noise (seemingly from the right side of the engine bay) that last exactly one second - kinda a grinding sound. After the noises passes, the it won't do it again until the car's turned off and restarted, etc. Being hot or cold has no effect - it is completely reproducable - every time. Thoughts ?

 

The noise is the ABS/VDC system check. It is normal.

If you really want to freak yourself out, try braking just as the system checks itself.

 

If it sounds like a small fart, excuse me, its the ABS self check

 

Read the car manual. The explanation is in there. This is the third time someone is bringing up this subject.

I'm glad I read this today. I was going to take my G to get it serviced. I thought something was wrong too. What a relief.

Damn, you guys must have Superman's hearing, I never heard that until I read this thread, and then had to turn the radio off to hear it! LOL!
