Dyno w/ Stillen X-pipe for sedan
Re: Dyno w/ Stillen X-pipe for sedan
An interesting observation today was a disparity in car tach vs. dyno tach speed readings. Both idle readings were ok at 650k, but each run produced about 200-250rpm less on the dyno tach at the top of the run. I always wondered why my rev limiter kicked in around 6.75k instead of the 6.5k redline, especially when others reported 6.5k being their experience. Now I know - the damn tach is off!

Yeah, I think there is something funny about the Stillen baseline...only about 200 rwhp with STD corrections? That would put in in the mid 190s with SAE corrections....somethin's fishy.
Did you ever baseline your car prior to your Mods? I was under the impression that 6MT Sedans, were putting down 225-230 SAE rwhp bone stock.

Re: Dyno w/ Stillen X-pipe for sedan
Alot of folks are curious if the promo dynos were AT or MT. I heard that Stillen put prototypes on at least two sedans for testing, and that one was manager 2FST4U's sedan. I believe his is AT, however, I don't know for certain or if it is represented on the promo. Alex, perhaps you can confirm or comment please?
As for my dynos, I don't have a bone stock baseline on this car and will probably never know exactly what gain (if any) can be attributed to my mods (for why, see GurgenPB's thread in Tech and Mods). I am very pleased with the current torque curves but, candidly, I am a bit disappointed in the HP as I was kinda hoping to be up in the 240's HP STD. Too optimistic? Dunno, but it seemed possible if everything was working well together.
As I said earlier, a large part of that disappointment comes as a result of the 1st pull we did in 4th gear to compare to a stock sedan pull already in his database. I was thinking at least it might give some idea of any potential gains with the mods I have vs. stock. Unfortunately, that earlier stock pull was without a doubt one of the strongest stock sedan charts I have seen yet. When overlaying HP results, the lines were damn close. I'll try to resize both and get them posted soon.

Re: Dyno w/ Stillen X-pipe for sedan
Doug,
The G35 Sedan test cars had auto transmissions.
I've discussed the test car's low baseline numbers with Alex twice. The second time was last evening. He said he doesn't know why, but that's the numbers they got. IMO, getting a good dyno pull with an AT Sedan can be tricky even for experienced dyno operators. My first thoughts were the VDC could have been on or the engine/trans temp might have been high during the baseline pull. But we really don't know.

Re: Dyno w/ Stillen X-pipe for sedan
Here's a 4th gear run I did with STD correction. I wanted to compare the torque and hp results to a 4th gear run by another bonestock G35 sedan 6mt already in the database. I was hoping to get an idea of how much (if any) gains might have come from my intake/ehaust mods.

Here's the 4th gear pull for the stock G35 sedan 6mt from the same dyno with STD correction. Great Scott!! Looks like 5hp and 5ft lbs MORE than my 4th gear pull. Either my mods are not doing much, or this is an exceptionally strong stocker.

All ready to rock 'n roll. It is somewhat disconcerting to hear any professional say "You all might want to step behind that truck there in case somethin' lets go." Ohh noooo!

Re: Dyno w/ Stillen X-pipe for sedan
Recently saw a stock AT Coupe dyno results. 218 horsepower - 217lb/lbs torque. Not very impressive (VDC was off). Of course it was a different car, different dyno and different day.

Re: Dyno w/ Stillen X-pipe for sedan
I had a similar problem with my modded SHO. I didn't do a baseline before my mods. Well after all the changes it was pulling numbers it should have been pulling when stock. I was a little disappointed to say the least. It would be really nice to see what the car to car (stock) variability really is. I have a feeling that we all would be surprised.

Re: Dyno w/ Stillen X-pipe for sedan
Just the adaptice ECU alone should account for up to 15hp variances would be a guess based on what I've heard. Didn't some do a dyno run before and after the reset same day?
Re: Dyno w/ Stillen X-pipe for sedan
I would have questioned the calibration accuracy of the dyno if your number had been in the 240s.
