Anyone else having trouble selling their sedan?

Blasphemy!! Yes, I know. It's time to move on. My wife has a sedan, we have no children and I have fallen in love with an s2000. Problem is, there seems to be no demand for these care where I live (Portland Or.) I have an 04 Sedan in Twilight Blue/willow with sport/prem. in beautiful condition, and only 13000 miles AND I'm asking below book value. I've recieved only 2 minor nibbles in 4 weeks, nobody has even asked to look at it. What the hell? Is it the high gas prices? Could it be that the 1st gen's seem old?

That's a pretty rare combination where are you advertising the sell? Is craigslist big in your area? Last resort would be eBay you'll reach a broader audience there.

If you haven't already try putting in trader online, slightly broader audience. I was just speaking to a salesman at the dealer here and they can't keep G sedans on the lot. Of course the demand varies by location.

Not many people can afford to pay 24+k For a Used car. Car sales in general are down

Depends on where you're advertising and how much you're asking. For comparison, I bought my '04 sedan in December 2006 for $18,900 from a dealership. Mine is a 6MT with 43K miles when I bought it--otherwise fully loaded minus nav. If yours is auto with 13K miles, I'd think you'd be able to get about $20K for it (considering it is 6 months later now too, and we all know how quickly cars depreciate). Don't judge by book value. For example, book value had mine at $24K if I was buying from a dealer in the condition that it was in--needless to say, I got it for MUCH less than book value. Other comparable G's in the Chicagoland area were listed at right around $21-22K at the time. See what other comparable G's are selling for in your area, and base your asking price off of that. Cars in the cheap price range go pretty fast, but I've seen cars in the G's price range sit around for a month or so too....unless you price aggressively.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Dealerships make it easy to get a loan (maybe too easy) and people can certainly get a bank or credit union loan but don't generally have 23k in cash sitting around.

Yes, the used car market for that price range is small. When I got my G almost two years ago I was able to get it for over $5k under private party "good condition" book when it was perfect because the guy could not find a buyer for months.

Do you mean the color and option packages together are rare? To answer your other question, I'm just doing the Craigslist thing at the moment. I sold my YZF750r and a bunch of other things with great sucsess.

There is a big difference between selling a bike on Craigslist and a car. Lots of appeal for a bike and alot of buyers. I sold my ZX6 on there in 4 hours.

Keep trying. I found my car on Craigslist. A lot of small high-end car lots advertise on Craigslist and they can privide financing as opposed to someone bringing a $25,000 check to your doorstep, which is rare.

Book values are often inaccurate. I look at asking prices to figure out how much cars actually sell for. Details on my method here:

In my area, there are so many sedans for sale i think it's going to be hard for me to sell. I put it on craigslist for a week and no calls. Makes me want to trade it in.

I just cannot bear to trade the car in. I'll just keep the car until the lease expires rather then allow the dealer to profit on both ends of a deal. It's so much easier to get into a new car without a trade. Also, people on Craigslist are notoriously cheap. My 04 sedan has 12000 miles/sport premium, rare color combo. The one person who was more than casually interested in the car opted to buy a base 2003 with 49000 miles only to save $3000.
