Crash!!!!!!!!!! Again

I crashed my G. It was rainning in the SF Valley last Friday and I came around a turn in Tip mode w/ the traction control turnned off and started to drift. I held the drift for a lenght of a house but then my a$$ came to far out and I countered it but I was headed for the curb I hit the curb went up it hit a mail box that also hit the bumper and headlight punched a hole in the hood and shattered my windshield. So i got a new windshield and now I have to but a new headlight(Xenon) a new hood and bumper, this sucks.

Tear... =(

my sedan is in the shop too... but she's coming back with a nismo bumper... courtesy of the muthafu*& who hit me and my insurance company... no more rock chips either, or original paint (trade off i guess)...

good luck with the repairs!

Re: Crash!!!!!!!!!! Again

Sorry to hear about your "G" and glad you are OK.
I am not trying to bash you. But it was raining and you had your VDC OFF??!!

There has been a NUMBER of people here that have had this happen to them. Did you not read those posts?

BTW, it was all started by Pestilence. Sorry Pesti. You do have one of the coolest sedan.

Re: Crash!!!!!!!!!! Again

Yea, VDC is a great feature, and is designed to prevent this exact type of control loss. Maybe you had it off on purpose to test out slides like this (I've done that under controlled circumstances myself).

There was another VDC-off related accident with four people in the car. I forget who, but man: rain + power + VDC = good.

I hope nobody got hurt; cars can get fixed.

Re: Crash!!!!!!!!!! Again

I have to agree with Merlin here. I autocross and consider myself a very skilled driver, but even I leave my VDC on when the roads are wet. There's no sense in chancing it. That's exactly what it was designed for.

Sorry about your damage, but I'm glad you're OK.

You have me scared...

I'm curious, as I'm getting my G sedan this week...

With all these accidents with VDC off, it makes me wonder if the G is too tail happy? I've driven Mustangs forever, and while they can be quite tail happy, you really have to be doing something very wrong to get into trouble with them. This was the case even with my 97 Cobra with 305hp and a light rear end.

Is the G this tail happy or is it simply people not being used to RWD with a light rear?

Re: You have me scared...

the tail coming out was forced by me. Even with VDC turnned off in dry conditions I have noticed that it still assist you in statying in control. the G prefers to push more than slide out. Its a very stable car with VDC on/off.

Re: You have me scared...

I think we just get a little over confident and the lack of not having Limited Slip.
Could even be (depending on the driver) that we have been driving Front Wheel Drive cars for too many years and don't realize the handling differences.

Re: You have me scared...

The G sedan is definitely a little tail happy. I have noticed the tendency especially in lift throttle situations - got to watch it in wet. Car & Driver noted the same tendency in their comparison test and after the first tail happy moment, said they left the VDC on and did not touch it.

Re: You have me scared...

Thanks for the responses.

So, would you say better or worse than, say a Mustang or other "old school" pony car?

Re: You have me scared...

much better. the oversteer is mostly due to driver error or driver forcing it. It would out handle a Rustang in the corners by far. Very good stable reliable drivers car.

Thanks!

Just wanted to make sure. I fugure most anything on wheels should be able to handle better than a solid axle Mustang.... (But the IRS Cobras approach Corvette handling)

Now I'm just counting down the hours until Wed.
