My friend can't beat my stock G, both are 6MTs, his being the 330i. When we switch cars, I can't beat my G in his car.

The only thing I liked better was the feel of the trasmission... although I damn near put my foot through the floor when pressing down the clutch pedal!

It depends on the conditions of the cars to, and the drivers - those are always the key variables. However, I agree with most of the people on this thread. Furthermore, my 03.5 G walked a bran new S60 the other day, 4-5 cars by 100mph. There's a significant underrating of the 03-04 G35 Sedans.

also the gas recommended and tested for the 03-04 G sedans have an effect to some degree.. those models offered a VQ that had no problems with 87 and was probably tested with such.

Just because a car "feels" faster means absolutely nothing. My friend used to have a 98 Z28 LS1 6 speed. I gave him a ride in my G35, took it through 1st and 2nd gear and he said it felt just as fast as his car. Obviously that is not the case! Also racing on the street means absolutely nothing as well especially from a stop... the track is the only objective race venue because the time slip doesn't lie. The 05/06 Motors are 275 horsepower based on the new ratings you can take that to the bank...

also.. i have a 330i @ home. and i can tell you that.. it's pretty much the same speed/power as the g35.. except the bmw does it 10 times smoother.. i guess it's the power of the inline 6..

the 330 takes the cake on performance comparison with the G.. but you gotta pay ~$7000 more for it..

i think a race between the two cars.. it's whoever hits the gas first..

also.. any REAL-WORLD test on the 1/4 on a G35s? i dont think it runs 14.5'ss... and a bmw will not run a 14.9.. that's way too high

What do you mean by "real world". If you mean owner 1/4 mile tests, then quite a few stock or mostly stock (z-tube, filter) G35 autos and 6MTs have seen 13.9-14.4@97-100mph.

As for the 335, it's rated at 300hp, but on the dyno, it puts down close to 290rwhp which means it's making closer to 330-335hp.

How about a 13.6@103 with full bolt-ons? What about a 13.7@102 with hiflow cats?

Jack_Burton,

I'd rather trust numbers than your "butt-dyno".

Give me some factual numbers and ill believe your claim of the 330i being faster. "Feel" has nothing to do with reality; it can be very deceptive.

Are you sure you weren't driving a 335i?

.

Back when my car was almost stock I raced a few 330's and never lost. I would agree that neither car spanks the other but in every case I always won.

There is no way the early G's numbers should be in question...

The times for the 330i are better than I expected. See here:
http://www.dragtimes.com/BMW--330i-Drag-Racing.html

14.15@101.5 for a ZHP with an intake.

And another one of interest: 14.391@96.203 in a 6AT, with nothing more than a drop-in filter. And that's at LACR. Haven't seen too many g35's run low 14's at LACR that close to stock.

You say that like S60s are supposed to be fast? Even if it were an S60R that you ran I doubt it was a 6MT as most folks probably went for the 5AT. The 5AT coupled with some turbo lag most certainly doesn't make for the best 0-60 times.

The S60R 6MT is quite a capable car. I saw one a year ago at a local 1/8th mile strip. That night I was running low 9's@78mph, and I mildly modded. This guy was 17 years old, it was his first time at the track, and he was running 9.3's at 80mph.

I saw that too, but they don't post any slips. The fact that these runs come from LACR is even more suspect.

The guy that ran 14.15@101.5 doesn't post any other data than just the final ET/MPH and he quotes 0-62mph. That makes me think that 14.1 is G-tech.
