power numbers in question

ok so i just drove my friends 2006 bmw 330i and let me tell you I think infiniti really fudged the numbers. BMW states 255/220 and it is significantly faster than the g35. I know 6 gears help big time but I think the 280/270 05 and 06 was way overrated. I mean seriously to think that the new g is only 26 horses more powerful than an '06 and almost a second quicker 0-60 makes me wonder. I'm kinda sold on the fact that all the first gens were WAY overrated and it should have been sold at 250/250 from the start.

I think your friend has it backwards, the 330i is a bit slower than a G35, auto or manual. The 330i 6MT typically ran 14.6-14.8@95mph in the mags. Even the mags, especially Motor Trend, have questioned the 330i's 255hp power rating. The 5AT G35s typically see 14.5-14.7@96mph in the mags. Lots of us have gone sub 14.5s in our stock/mostly stock 5ATs.

As for the power, it's a well known fact that the 260hp/260tq sedans were actually making 275hp/270tq.

I think you're mistaken

2006 330i 6AT (14.7@95mph) vs 2006 G35 5AT (14.7@96mph)
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ecs_price.html

2006 330i 6MT, 14.9@94mph. http://www.dragtimes.com/BMW-330i-Timeslip-7719.html Sure, the driver could suck, but you can't really mess up MPH. MPH shows available HP and 94mph a bit slower than what most of us see in the 1/4 mile. I saw 98mph stock.

330i 6MT 14.7@96mph Edmunds
http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpconta...1/pageNumber=6

330i 6MT 14.3@98mph Car & Driver
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=3

In 2002, Motor Trend had their 260hp 2003 G35 5AT sedan go 14.6@97mph in both their comparison test against the 330i (14.9@94mph) and also another 14.6@97mph (5AT) in the COT issue for 2003, of which the G35 won.

The facts are the G35 is not overrated. It's always made what it's been advertized at or more (03/04 260hp models). The thing about BMWs is that they rate their motors differently than most other makes hence the saying "German Horses are always stronger". 255hp in a BMW is like 265-270hp in most other cars. Basically, BMW underrates their motors by about 5%-8%.

1. Never, never, never trust your butt-accelerator-G-force-inertial-guidance-meter. It is NOT accurate. Period.

2. If anyone underrates horsepower numbers, it's BMW.

3. Bottomline: Trust the published track times from credible sources.

I saw two videos on streetfire.com and the other on youtube that has the bmw beating the G(wonder if its legit). So I don't know about that.... maybe I need to go drive one and see for myself or better yet race one.
