curse of the coupe midpipe

for starters i worked a full 13 hour day, then waiting for fed ex to come with my midpipe. it finally came in a couple of hours later. i then figure why not put it on, it can't take too long. wrong. the front of the old midpipe comes off with ease, but does the back? no. a bolt is stripped so the nut won't come off. no problem i'll just cut the bolt off. oh yeah, i have not grinder and a car with half an exhaust hanging off. so i get a friend to bring me to wal-mart (the only place still open) to get a grinder. does the cut off wheel do its job? no. it keeps sliding around. by now its late, so i figure to hell with it. i'll just pull the exaust completely off so i can drive to work 7 hrs. from now. but wrong again. the hangers give me hell, which then causes me to slide my knee across the exhaust shield slicing it wide open. somehow the grinder decides to finally work as the blood drips down my leg. i get the old mid off and slap the new one on (which goes on much easier) and now it sounds nice.

Glad things worked out in the end (except for your knee)

Had the same problem when trying to instal my mid pipe. Bolt stripped but it was towards the y-pipe. So ran around town and everyone was closed except for a speedee oil change. Talked the guy to cut the bolt off but the stud was still welded on to the y-pipe and he didn't have the right tools to get it out. So had to drive home sounding like a ricer until the next day. I brought it to Meinekee the next day and they fixed it.

Wow, sounds like installing a new exhaust is less work. Took me 3 hours total to get the old one off and put my stillen gen 2 on. Amazingly I didnt hurty myself doing it.. and i normally do bleed at least a little when working on a car.

Any corded power drill and a decent drill bit would have had it out in no time.

My rubber mallet seems to work fine for these stripped bolts...

Glad you got it on and you're enjoying it! I only paid $20 for the mid pipe install and $30 for my HKS exhaust...fair prices considering all the work that could be involved

I have a 2004 Sedan and was wondering if the coupe mid-pipe, or 05/06 sedan midpipes are direct swap?

Thanks!
