Traded in G35 for S4

For personal reasons I had to trade in my G35 6mt sedan for an automatic. I got a 2004 audi S4. Just want to say thanks to everyone for the great info on this site. Just hope there is a site like this for s4. By the way I got $18000 for my 2003 g35 6mt with 32k miles. I thought it was a good deal when you figure in the tax savings versus selling outright. Anyone here ever own an s4 with 4.2 v8? let me know of any web sites/upgrades that can be done. Thanks

What are your initial comparisons on the S4 vs. your old G? I'm leaving the country soon so I'll have to sell my car, but when I get back I'll have to decide again what kind of car I'll want to have. Definitely a sedan tho

good choice for a trade-in IMO. Congrats on the new ride and with some minor mods you can have some crazy HP with those cars.

I got $18k for my trade in too (03 with 43000 miles). Unlike you, I downgrade to an 04 TSX. =(

Good choice going with the 4.2 V8 vs the prior 2.7TT V6. The 2.7TT V6s are an absolute nightmare to work on and a turbo replacement is an honest to God $5-7K thanks to the amount of labor just to extract the turbos and you can be assured at least one turbo will die within 80K miles. Unfortunately, the mods available for the S4 V8 are very few. I do hope for you sake that you do have a good bit of factory warranty left because Audi/VW rank towards the very bottom when it comes to long term dependability.

I completely agree! Vw and AUDI seem to go "out of date" extremely fast!!! I dont know why, but all of them break after 75K miles...its weird. My friend joe who has the TT version, he is lucky because his dad owns a VW/AUDI shop so he goes crazy with mods because it only cost him parts.

Very nice choice. My friend has had both the 01 TT S4 and now a 06 S4. They are great cars.

That's because you have to pull the engine to replace the turbos. If that happens, just slap a couple of K04's on there and you'll be making huge power.

Untrue, I know quite few 2.7TT S4s, including a couple chipped (boosting over 20psi), that have well north of 100k on the OEM turbos.

I agree with you on that.

VAG cars are great fun, have fun with your S4. As someone else said, the VWVortex and Audizine forums will be your new bestfriends.

APR = upgrades for VWs and Audis. I think they have a chip and a supercharger for your 2004 S4.

Good choice and good luck with the S4.

Nice! I did the reverse and traded my S for a G. As said before, get your wallet ready once your CPO warranty runs out. Thats the only reason I got rid of my S4.
The best forum IMO is www.audizine.com (i have the same username there so feel free to hit me up). Audiworld has good info, but theyre not NOOB friendly, and their format sucks.
www.goapr.com and www.awe-tuning.com are the most "popular" places for mods and also extremely good. You can also check out www.autospeedperformance.com. Theres a few more good ones that I cant remember off the top of my head but a few minutes in the forums and youll figure them out. Good luck with the new car!! Oh and in case you didnt know, your car is referred to as a "B6" S4.

you can get a lot more out of the 2.7T engines with the APR or GIACC chips. there are ecu chips for the non turbos as well but probably cant get a lot of HP out of it....
