Got rear ended!

Sitting at a light, minding my own business. It was a hard hit but it just cracked the paint around the license plate. It just sucks to have to go through the whole insurance process. I got a ticket because my insurance card was temporary! I haven't got the permenant cards in the mail yet. What a stupid law! Now I have to go to court and prove I have insurance!

At least I won't have to pay for it. I really hope my rates don't go up since it wasn't my fault. I reserved a brand new Altima while the G is in the shop, I am going to drive the crap out of it!

I wouldn't think your insurance would go up as long as you don't report it to your insurance company (you file a claim against the dumb-a$$'s insurance since it was his fault). Your insurance should only go up because of items on your public driving record (moving violations), or claims against your policy (accidents where you're at fault). Good luck, and enjoy the wrong-wheel-drive Alty.

Exactly. Since you weren't even moving there is really no chance of your insurance company being liable, unless the other guy doesn't have insurance I suppose, in which case you're still not liable, I think.

You're serious? You got a ticket for having a temporary insurance card? Doesn't that mean that basically everyone in your state is driving "illegally" for a week or two any time they switch insurance providers or buy a new car?

Talk to the other guys insurance and see if they will work it out with you, before you call your insurance and risk raising your rates.

Well generally your insurance company will work pretty hard to place blame on the other guy anyway, they don't want to pay for it either. You'll be fine either way, getting rear ended is usually pretty cut and dry not your fault (even if it is), and since you weren't moving you're all good.

My advice on the citation for temp insurance card is to take your proof of insurance to the court and show the judge that you did have insurance at the time the accident happened. Not guaranteeing that he/she will drop the charge, but here in AZ they usually do. Thats just a d*ck charge when YOU were the one who was the victim. And yes, I would also go through the other driver's insurance. If they start screwing around with you, then call yours and get them involved. But your rates should not go up--it wasn't your fault. Did the other driver get cited for causing the accident?

YES! Exactly my point! What the hell am I supposed to do? The cop even told me that I can just go to court with my permanent insurance card and they will drop the charge.

^So they can still squeeze some money out of you. In california you still have to pay a $10 court fee even if they find you completely free of fault. WTF is up with that? THey should be paying us for being a duumbass and wasting our time. So in the end they still win...bastards...

That sucks. Insurance ticket is BS. Some states (like NY) you get part of the blame even if you were just sitting there at a light. Try to contact their insurance. Drive the hell outta that rental while you got it. Good luck.
