Re: Bose & Standard CD Players seem to be identical
Dunno about that stuff... All i konw is that they are physically identical... technically the bose has a little bit better sound and a seperate amplifier for each speaker.. also i konw that with the bose system aftermarker stereo installation is supposed to be easier..
I dunno.. i have the standard head unit and its fine..

Re: Bose & Standard CD Players seem to be identical
The head unit/cd player parts are different. My Bose changer jammed, and while the dealer had a couple of the Clarion units in, I had to wait for a Bose unit on backorder before they could fix it. Of course, for all I know, the only difference is the logo painted on the cassette flap... lol.

Re: Bose & Standard CD Players seem to be identical
I heard to drive BOSE speakers you have to use a BOSE headunit... that's why it's soooooo hard putting aftermarket navi on vehicles with BOSE systems... you gotta change the speakers, too.....
Re: Bose & Standard CD Players seem to be identical
Supposedly, the Bose speakers run at 1 ohm impedence, instead of the industry standard 4 ohms. Makes them more efficient. That's what I've heard, anyway. Assuming it's true, an aftermarket amp would blow the Bose speakers, and the Bose amp can't quite drive aftermarket speakers. You could also play with wiring in some resistors in there to correct the problem and keep the speakers or amp, but that many resistors with a high-enough wattage rating gets expensive. To add more fun to the mix, the stereo head unit is integrated with the climate controls (and if you have it, nav controls, too), so swapping it out is difficult at best.
I just wish there were some way to feed in an RCA signal and use that useless SAT button as an AUX port.
