Yellowish residue on aluminum trim near deck

I have a stock bose head unit and right below it is the brushed aluminum trim/molding that goes all around the gear. Well right below the 1 -2 -3 -4 -5 -6 buttons for the cd unit, there is some yellowish residue on the aluminum trim. Its also on the edge of the ashtray when i open it.

Now i only just saw it so it is recent. I haven't used any gunk/liquids/product to clean the trim except a clean microfibre towel to wipe off the dust.

Im really confused as to how this poop got on!!!

Seen this before in someone's thread. Everyone accused the guy of smoking, but he wasn't a smoker.
The thread was from last year, I can't remember how it turned out or what the cause was.

Well i have the same problem and i will probably visit the dealership soon as well for this problem. The only thing is i dont want them just to replace it i want them to fix it, preventing it from doing it again and again. Do you think its really just the sun?

update: tech/foreman/warranty mgr all looked at it and first question was do u smoke. anyways i told them i have never smoked in the car or ever (which is true). according to the warranty they said they will try cleaning it first. if that measure doesnt work they have to file the claim and get the part from japan. so they have seen it now and in my next service they will try to clean it up. anyways the parts take 3 weeks from japan so its on hold for now.

update: the whole aluminum trim is getting replaced tomorrow.

basically on 17sept my car went in for the 30k service and the dealer was supposed to get the replacement piece of trim in one week. This past tue I called them up and they told me the item is still in shipment. I lost it!

I went ballistic on the tech + service manager and sent off a cool email to Infiniti UAE CS and the Head Manager.

Two days later,I get a call from the tech manager saying they will replace the whole trim tomorrow.

What BS service... which only turned to prompt action after I notified the head of infiniti!!!

BTW - I only went ballistic because they took 2 months in june to replace a faulty spiral cable which caused my airbag light to keep coming on!

i am going into the dealership for this along with the shudder in 5th gear. my car is covered during the day and in the garage at night and i have the same yellow coloring showing up so it cant be direct sunlight. i think it is due to heat from the stereo which feels pretty warm even after a short time. i also have a detector plugged in the outlet which causes some more heat in that area. glad to hear they are replacing even if it was a hassle at first.

Keep us updated. I still haven't heard anyone report what the dealer says the cause is.

maybe the heat from the sun is adding to the issue but my car is never in direct sunlight. if it uncovered then i use a windshield cover and the windows are tinted.

It's a common problem. Most likely it's caused by the heat from the audio unit.
