On my 04, you can reach one of the manual pulls through the trunk pass-through. I assume that is to open trunk when battery is kaput.

I was able to reach into the trunk via the pass-thru and grab my jumper cables. Then hooked up my old battery that was sitting on the floor to the cables in the car with my jumpers. Not pretty, but I didn't want to fit the old battery back into its original position. It was hard enough to get it out!

Hey T, Did this battery go in without any modifications? I am about to pick one up at sears tomorrow for HHMMM well $169. This is my third battery in my G that i've only owned since march 05 brand new. I guess putting it in storage for a year killed the stocker, but the replacement Interstate only lasted for about a year. I'm starting to get a little suspicious now especially since I have no stereo.

I guess Optima 34R IS NOT a direct replacement for the 04 Sedan as the cables do not reach the terminals. Those of you that make those type of recommendations should be nice enough to let others know if it requires modifications or a direct fit. Well I guess it's back to the stupid stocker for me as the Die-Hard Platinum doesn't fit either unless you're willing to replace you cables with longer ones

I need to change my dead battery as well. How easy is it? Anything online with directions to follow?

Thanks

Pretty easy. A couple of plastic fastners that secure the panel around the battery and you're done

Why is everyone suggesting an optima batery? Is the 04 Sedan different from other year models? Because the Optima 34R fits in the tray but your cables will not reach the battery terminal because the battery post are on the opposite side of the battery than your stocker. Besides your factory battery is not a Group 34 battery it's a 35C.

That's strange, because the Optima 34R I saw in Auto Zone had the terminal on the opposite side than the factory. Someone clue me in!!!!!!

Well after lots of confusion I think I found one at batteriesareus.com. Is it the OPTIMA RED TOP R800R REVERSED POST BATTERY RED 34R? I saw it for $139 + shipping, does that sound like the right one?

I went to Costco and the 3yr/10yr battery was $55... I will probably end up getting that.. I'll let you know how it fits..
the ratings/specs were all better than factory.. I don't think I need the $200 Optima's.. (do they even have warranty on those?)

damn how come you guys are paying $100 plus bucks for a battery??? thats wayyyy to much, i paid 65 bucks for mine minus the 8 bucks trade in for the old battery for a premium everstart, and change it myself, is a little bit of a bi*** to change it since you gotta pop open the panel that holds the battery and move over the lines for the windshield washer, but its a do it yourself job, took 10 mins.
