FYI, tinting the front windshield is not only unsafe, I'm pretty sure it's illegal in every state.

It's only illegal if it's enforced.

Hmm, so I should be able to go out and steal some parts off someone's G35, and so long as I don't get caught I'm okay, right?

If you don't get caught, you won't get in trouble, that's all I'm saying.

In CT, the cops could truly care less about any sort of tinting, but when I lived in NY, I got 3 tickets for it. It goes for speeding, cell phone use, anything on the road.

Thanks for the input. I ended up getting 20% on the back window, and 35% on all the sides. It's perfect for me, and not an overkill in any way.

20% is a nice number.

Darker does look better, but sometimes when you drive you have a tough time seeing out the windows. I've been in some dark areas with no street lights and can't see anything out my rear windows and need to roll down the front windows to see. Backing up is a PITA at times.

35% is just too damn light.

But check the laws. In MA, darker than 35% on any window is illegal. If you get caught or not all depends on the local cops and how strict they enforce the laws. Some guys can get away with 5% for years, others will get busted the first week they toss 20% on their car.

I dunno if i could drive with a tinted windshield. Legalities aside, how do you see at night??

There are 3 things to keep in mind....

1. what is the legal limit in your state. It may be different for front and back. Here in FL I think it is 35 front and 20 back but I got 20 all around (oops did I say that). Don't go off too much from legal limit as it will draws attention

2. Which state are you in ? I'm in FL and I need darker shade as it is very hot here and a lot of light.

3. Your interior also make a different and even a lighter tint will look dark when you have a dark interior. I also have a Black 35 but light interior.

as far as ive been told, in FL 35 front, and no restriction for every other window. however, getting 35 in the front and 5 everywhere else would look retarded. my last 3 cars have all had 5 all around in FL and ive never been bothered, even though ive had over 20 tickets in those cars (for speeding, etc). this car i went with 16 all around because of the issue of having to roll down the windows to back up. sorta dumb for me to go lighter now that i have a backup camera though i guess as i got older, my tastes changed some.

Edit: actually, if this site is correct, then the information ive received in the past was wrong. either way, they dont enforce it down here.

How much have you all found tints to affect the range of your radar detector?

35% is too light. I regre it. Im going with 20's when I can.

5% (LIMO) is unnecesarry and its going to be a pain in the a$$ at night. Trust me, 20% is the limit in terms on night visibility. Anything less and it starts becoming obscure more and more during night driving.

^^ Great point. When I had my G tinted, I took it along with a buddy of mine who has a camry with a similar grey interior with my IPsedan. I wanted to see how his tint came out, when we came back to pick his car up, I saw his 35 and decided to go with 20. It's been months and he's pissed LOL, shoulda gone with 20%.
