Why gas cap on the right? (Corrected)
Prob not the greatest question, but does anyone know why the G35 gas cap is on the right side, as opposed to being on the left for all other Japanese cars? Is there an engine specification reason or are they catering to a Euro style car?

Playfull bunch today?
The simple answer is because the exhaust runs on the left and there is more room on the right. Of course then we are still back to why. And then the coupe that is able to have dual exhaust, which is also on the right.
My thought is it's either simply random, a cultural thing (based on design location, primary market), or a safety issue. Remember when cars had the opening in the back, often under the license plate? Pinto?

nate,
FYI. The stock coupe exhaust is not a dual setup. The transverse mounted muffler has a single inlet with two outlets.

Probably because the Japanese versions of our G's are right hand drive.
You'd think that when they changed the drive, they could change the filler. No big deal.

All of mine have been... I like it, though, as I can park pretty close and not worry about banging a crappy trashcan or pylon when I open the driver's side door

I like it on the passenger's side. Most of my previous cars (Ford) have had it on that side, so it's just natural for me. Also makes it easier when at the pump as your door is facing away from the pump and curb. One less thing to worry about when getting out of the car.

I've noticed that when there is a long line at the gas stations (especially costco), most cars have their gas cap on the driver's side. This makes the lines a lot shorter for those of us with the gas cap on the passenger side. I like that!
