Insurance costs Sedan vs. Coupe

I realize that everyone's insurance cost is relative to their situation. But in general, is the insurance for a coupe higher than a sedan? If so, what is the difference? If anyone has had experience insuring a coupe versus sedan, please do share. I'm interested in getting the G35 coupe at some point here but I fear the rumors I hear about the higher costs to insure a coupe . I'll most likely talk to my insurance agent at some point here but it would be nice to hear other people's experiences. Thanks!

It's very logical that the coupe would have higher insurance rates. If you want to do your own research, try entering the two vehicles into the online quote services offered by Allstate, State Farm, GEICO, etc. and make the comparison.

Re: Insurance costs Sedan vs. Coupe

Before we made our purchase, I called my Allstate agent to get the premiums. No difference in the coupe or sedan! Strange isn't it? On that note, when my wife and I traded in our Miata a couple of years back for the Acura RSX Type S, we thought for sure that our rates would drop. NOT! That damn RSX cost us $30 more a month than a 2 seater ragtop coffin on wheels!
We are now saving $30 per month since the Acura is gone and we are in the G.

I found the rates on my Coupe only marginally higher than on my Sedan. I was pleased about that.

Re: Insurance costs Sedan vs. Coupe

Since the insurance companies consider the sedan as a "high performance vehicle" you won't see much of a difference between the sedan and coupe. The down side is that the sedan is also expensive to insure compared to, say, a Camry or Accord.

I called AAA and asked the same question and the difference was minimal due to fact that they are really the same engine with just a few changes, I think they quoted me at $680 for the whole year for my 04 Sedan and $720 if I went for the Coupe.

When I was shopping around, I found this to be very true for GEICO and some others ($1100/yr). But I ended up with Allstate at a much more rational rate ($800/yr). YMMV. Shop around!!!

GEICO can kiss my... nevermind. Last time I got a quote from them, they were almost twice what Allstate, State Farm, etc. wanted me to pay. I'm sticking with 21st Century, they've got the low prices and the great service.

I pay $730 a year with State Farm, although I do have a good record, package discounts, married, over 25, and in the cheapest city to insure a car.

It actually could be even lower, but I have a pretty low deductible.

Re: Insurance costs Sedan vs. Coupe

I pay $900 a year for my G35s with state farm (multi-car, multi-line, married, >25) for $250 collision and $50 comprehensive. This is down $100 a year from what my Subaru WRX was at (all those import-crazy teens buying, crashing, and stealing it!).

Price and horsepower don't seem to matter as much as crash and theft rates. My WRX rates dropped over $500 a year when I moved 15 minutes south across the county line!

I went from a Mustang GT Convertible to my G35 sedan, and man, my rates dropped like $400 a year, I couldn't believe it, LOL, helps to make up for the higher payment! Shodog, the drop may also reflect how well the G35 did in crash tests!

Re: Insurance costs Sedan vs. Coupe

Get this! I had called my insurance agent on some costs for possible new cars for my wife and just for fun I thought I would ask how much more a coupe would have been....ZERO!!!

That's right, with my stats (see above), although I was led to believe it's universal for them, State Farm doesn't make a distinction between the coupe and sedan!

Moral of the story call around. You need to ask!

Yes - I'm still perfectly happy with my decision to get a sedan in case you were wondering.

Re: Insurance costs Sedan vs. Coupe

My ins. co. is 21st century here in so. cal. They are charging me $1250 a year ($300 deductible) a year. And this is for G35 sedan being a second car (I told them I have a old accord as a first car). And I have a clean record with them for over 15 years. What a rip off. What are some of the quotes for people live in so. cal. from other ins. co., ie Mercury, AAA, allstate, etc.
