how come we dont have that thingy mi jiggy that shows up how many miles gallons to empty and all the goodies =[ my 01 300m even had it, 06 maxima has it tells u ur average and stuff, we have to do it old fashion way and measure by how much we put in and how much is left lol.

Your owner's manual tells you the minimum and recommended. The up reved engines (and coupes) generally require 91. I think if your gas cap says 91 required, use it. If it says 91 recommended, you can go 87.

I think the only times I've seen an improvement with 91 it has been my imagination, or a specific batch of gas.

Of course, I don't push my car real hard, where it might make a difference.

I could probably get 400 miles/tank more often, but ever since I had a fuel pump go out on a previous car after letting the tank get too low I've tended to refill at 1/4 tank. At that rate, I would have to average 27mpg to get 400.

On the other hand, I've averaged over 21 mpg over the last 42000 miles, so I average over 400 miles/20 gallon tank.

 

Hello all. For whatever it's worth, on my '06 G35 sedan running Chevron 93 octane, stock wheels/tire size at about 34 psi all around, I've been getting a consistent 18 mpg city driving, and 26 mpg all-highway, with A/C running at moderate (70F) setting.

You're too cool to post your times in the Best Times 1/4 in the Drag section and your super cool to call me out in post #22 with the "I drive the hell out of my car and love kicking @ss all over cars like yours!!!!" even though I didn't make a snid remark about your car. BTW, I have not a clue about what's been done to your car other than the 3.7 gears and I never said I'd beat your car especially in this post. Since you don't list 1/4 miles in your sig nor in the drag section I have not a clue what your car does. Everyone else on this site posts their 1/4 mile times in the drag section so that's where I'd expect to find yours. I did a search and it appears that your current best is a high 14.6.

Feel free to keep running your mouth about how fast you think your car is though

FYI we do have it, but it's only available with the NAV option.

For the record I am averging 600KM/373MI on mostly hwy and some city, 500KM/311MI on mostly city and some hwy.

 

I went close to 450 miles on a tank and 99% was highway. The last trip I took I got 26 mpg on the highway. I only average about 16-18 mpg in the city but I always run 91 octane in my car. I have also heard that if you run higher octane in your car on long trips you will get better mpg.

 

the "first first gen" (03-04) sedans had some knocking issues with anything below 91. I heard a faint knock when I filled my "first and 1/2 gen" (2005) but nothing too big.

if your getting 400 to the tank imho dont change anything. It is very much possible to get that in the first first gen RWD sedans. they got pretty good mpg in comparison to my 15 mpg x

 

Very well could be true. The highest octane I can get in Kansas City is 92 (only at BP) and the highest I got in Georgia was 93. I do think these cars like higher octane fuels for peak performance (both power and mpgs).

 

Although it sounds funny i can second the statement. He has the only automatic G coupe or sedan that I have ever lost to. We gotta have rematch after I get my new my clutch!!!!!!!!! I was very impressed with ur car at the drags.

 

ahh, I totally forgot to mention what I do to get over 21.77mpg. I never use the AC. Instead, I usually leave the vents open on the AC. lower the windows about an Inch down, then raise the sunroof.

The only time I use the AC is when I roll with passengers or its over 95F.

And shifting all my gears under 2k RPM also helps. (yes, I cruise like a grandma to show off my OEM stocks)DOMO

 

It's been 95-100+ in Kansas City for the past 2 weeks and I've been running the A/C at 78 (my A/C is super cold) and still getting 20mpg in 100% city driving and 23 in mixed. When I got nearly 30mpg, it was on a 600 mile trip from Atlanta to Florida in upper 90 degree weather, my wife and child on board, plus about 150lbs in the trunk. The point is, the A/C really doesn't suck out a lot of mpgs. On the highway, it's actually better to run the A/C instead having the drag from the windows down.

 

I believe he has a sedan. Regardless of how quick it is, there's no need for him to be a jackass about it. This isn't the first time he's come from out of the no where and straight up said his car would rock mine. It just seems a bit childish because these are just cars. That's it. He says he runs at the strip a lot and very well could, but since he never posts in the drag section, I am clueless to what he runs. After some searching, all I could find was a recent post that said he ran high 14.6s in the heat NA. Seems to me he's not to willing to post his runs in the existing 1/4 mile database because his runs are rather slow for his mods probably for conditions (even though we post density altitude for our PB runs). My PB run is posted in the modified 1/ mile section even though I only had a z-tube at the time where as everyone lese in that particular section has a crapload more mods. I am also the slowest. I don't care. I still posted my times. Oh well, this is so OT.

 

On my last trip, my mileage was over 25-26mpg driving in the mountains. Then, after 1000 miles, I checked the tire pressure and saw it was set to 41psi. Lowered it to the rated 30psi, and it dropped 2mpg over the remaining 2000 miles.

 

I always get 400+ miles per tank on the highway w/ AC on.
