Is it just my 03 sedan?

Okay guys this has been going on for a while now with my 03 sedan. While driving normal, I would floor the gas to try and pass someone but my car doesn't accelerate anywhere. I would hear my engine rev up and my rpm would jump from 3k to about 7k but the car wouldn't go anywhere. It seems like it's lagging. By the time it does accelerate, I'm already past the car. They probably got scared from the car being so loud. Is it just my car or that's how the G's are?

MT or AT? If MT, then it sounds like you have a clutch slipping. Not sure what it would be if you are auto, but mine is not like that at all. Pedal floored = quick push back in the seat.

It's time for a tranny rebuild. AT transmissions have wearing components also. I just had to do mine.

How would you do something like this? Also how much would it cost?

This is a torque converter problem. You either have low fluid (i.e. the fluid is leaking) or your torque converter is malfunctioning. Is shifting when accelerating moderately smooth and seemless? If so, the mechanics of your transmission are fine. The slip is from the TC.

The bad news is that this is a labor intensive repair. They have to pull the exhaust, then the driveshaft, then remove the transmission from the bottom to get to the torque converter for replacement. I don't know the cost but if you don't get it replaced, you are seriously running a risk of being caught on the side of the road.

^ This sounds about right. When I give it a little gas, it accelerates very smooth. Only when I punch the gas pedal it seems to lag.

Reset the computer! You computer has learned your granny driving habits. Try a reset and see if the performance comes back. I have a 2003 and it still runs like a bat out of hell.

^ I'll try this. Could it be that I need my tranny flushed also?

You need to take it to a reputable transmission shop (or the dealer if you trust him). It would take a couple of days and about $1000 if there aren't any major problems. Mine was doing the same thing in MM mode in 3rd gear. Other gears were OK.
