Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!

I measured my Navi mpg vs. calculated over 10 tankfuls and it was only +/- 1.8, with no significant bias high or low, totally random. It's pretty accurate for me, but it likley depends on your driving style.

I seem to be consistently in the 17-18 mpg city. Thats not driving very aggressively either. Occational WFO but not as a rule. You guys getting over 20 city...what the heck are you doing (besides lying...j/k!)? I was averaging around 20 driving like a wimp...but that's not fun. Pedal to the metal...MPG be damned!

Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!

Mileage is always all over the place in these discussions.

I have a coupe with auto and I only get 16-17 mpg; calculated at fill up (not Nav). I'm talking normal driving to, not WOT, etc. I'm at 9K miles and the mpg has been about the same since I've had the car. This is really poor mileage for a 6 cylinder. Previously I drove a BMW 540 (which is a V8) and it never got less than 18 mpg.

I think maybe people reporting high mileage don't live in big cities. I'm in LA so the traffic is the worst and mpg surely suffers; but my V8 is driven under the same conditions and gets better mileage.

It was, the 1st item said the motor would move to 300hp, I said best they put some effort into consumption before we end up with a G35-Yukon - from there the consumption took over, seems like front seat controls (which personally I dont mind and some comfort - which I dont find an issue with - 5'10 and 190lbs), and gas consumption are the 2 big items that Infiniti need to enhance in the 2005 model. - I might also suggest a longer 1st gear and slightly better clutch take up on pull off

Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!

mrman_3k - it could be normal if you only drive very short distances and mostly in town. I'm 50-50 city/highway (if you can call the 101 commute highway) and average 26-30 miles per trip. Short distances (where the car doesn't really warm up) and all stop and go will reduce mileage. 12-15 is very low though. Are you racing from the light, only to stop hard a block or two later?? Very short commute distances (under 7-8 miles)? All city driving??

The Navigation System overestimates the mileage from .5 to 2 miles per gallon compared to the old method of dividing the miles by the gallons when you fill up.

Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!

Fuel ecomony was not a factor in my decision to buy a G35 as I wanted a sports car, and that is what I got. I am surprised at how many people are so concerned about MPG issue knowing on the front end that a sports car is not designed with fuel economy as part of the design concert. Personally I would like to see a "G45". Yes that right, I like the styling and the handling of the G, but would like more torque. My solution for more Torque and HP is to increase the HP of the M45 motor to about 400HP and drop it into the G.

G35MARK - I totally agree with you. I too wonder why so many people are concerned with the G's gas mileage. If mileage is your concern, then go get a Honda Civic!!!!

I hope Infiniti does drop the Q45 engine in the G, then all hell will break loose. They will need to do that or forced induction to counet the CTS-V.

Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!

I was watching an episode of RIDES on TLC last week, and some shop (i think it was Ron Millens) dropped the GS430 V8 engine into the IS300, and modified it out to crank out 350 bhp. If they can do it for the lexus, im sure they can do it for the G.

Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!

Yes, I saw the same episode and have it recorded on my ultimate TV off the the The learning channel. (Tivo) I traded my IS300 for the G35 Sedan. I like the style of the IS300 but it did not have the interior room of the G. Also cruising at 70mph I was over 3,000 RPM in fifth gear which no six speed is available at this time. No wonder I only averaged about 23 mpg on the highway. Plus only 215 hp.

Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!

Raising up the horsepower by more than ten percent without increasing the engine noise seems impossible to me, so I doubt it if Infiniti would do that to the even more luxury sedan M35, if such a car would really exist.

Re: 2005 G35 - 300bhp!

Got to be careful here - too much more capacity and the motor will lose its ability to rev and become more "truckish" - my guess is that at 3.5L for a 6 we are at about max capacity and really should move to 8cylinders for a good revy 4+ litre motor - incidentally if you look at C&D the new xterra is due out with a 4.0 motor at 250hp but no doubt tons of torque so they have the motor - but In my opinion a 4l six is not for a sports car - unless they have a way to make it more revvy and by revvy I dont mean peaky in power delivery but rather the ability to quickly climb and fall off the revs in response to the gas pedal, and to do this requires lower reciprocating mass (achieve this with smaller and lighter pistons) - hence the need for 8+ cylinders at 4+ litre capacity. Also of concern would be if they put a big motor in the front - they could effect handing, currently the steering and road manners are very well balanced.
