put in coupe mid pipe last night
so I picked up a coupe midpipe locally from another member on here and had time to put it in. Swap was easy five bolts on the exhaust, and 2 for the stock hangers. Took me about 45 minutes from time of jacking the car up to dropping it down. Used some penetrating oil on the stock bolts which helped things out. The factory midpipe weighs about 40-50 pounds and the coupe midpipe is maybe 10. Considerable difference in weight savings. My initial thought was it sounded the same at start up. But then I realized being able to hear it at all was new b/c my w stock midpipe on I couldn't tell if the car was running or not. After driving and hainv my frined rev the engine some I can tell it's louder simply because I can hear it at all. Sounds good but I probably wouldn't want it any louder. Seem much more bassy at idle, and 1,500 rpms cruise. Under acceleration I can't hear it over my z tube and pop charger though. Overall I'm very happy with it. Pretty much did exactly what I wanted it to. Now is there no way the factory coupe muffler will fit under our back bumpers ??
Nope sorry, the coupe mufflers will not fit on a sedan without some intense modification. Glad you're happy with the coupe mid pipe
Try doing a search in the sedan forum for it. it's been talked about a bunch of times.

also can I add hi flow cats, and / or an upgreaded Y pipe for more power w/o changing the sound / loudness of the car if I leave the factory muffler on ? Basically looking to do some good power mods with the exhaust w/o making the car much louder

It would not fit at all right now. The muffler would hit the spare tire well so the hangers would need extended which would make it hang down too low. Also the fuel evap container is right in the way of the other side exit and would need to be removed or moved.

BTW, I had the coupe midpipe before the 05/06 midpipe and the sound is much healthier and linear. The coupe midpipe would sound weird at certain rpms and it did resonate a bit under high load, low rpm conditions.
Here's a short video of the 05/06 midpipe on my 03 sedan.

Also, the resonator is designed to match the flow/pulse characteristics of the sedan muffler and not the crossflow design of the coupe/Z muffler. The sound is amazing. Very sporty, decently deep, and doesn't resonate. The setup is a deeper than the 05/06 sedans because those cars use a 20% larger muffler which obviously kills some noise.

So I have an 03 sedan..and just picked up an 03 coupe middy....what are the pros and cons vs. the 05/06 coupe mids? Should I install it anyways or try to find an 05/06 coupe midpipe?

thanks for the info dude..ima see if i could find me one some where..
I have a coupe mid pipe on my 04 sedan and didnt have to bang any heatshields. I expected that I would and when the car was up on the lift i pushed the whole exhaust back and forth and couldnt get it to touch the heat shield. Word here on the boards is that the coupe middy is louder than the 05-06 middy. I may swap at some point just to see the difference and will be sure to post vids of both for the community.
