Hi Guys,
It was not my intention that we engage in insults - this serves no purpose other than to incite. You are correct I did post the line - "go girlll", but the tone of the comment if you will reflect at the context was not intended as condoning behaviour but rather as one in jest.
Secondly your points about not talking about abortion, gay marriage, drugs etc is not logical - Im not saying that we should not talk about these topics - I started this post for the purpose of being able to discuss this topic. What Im refering to are the posts that idolize and serve as a bragging forum for what can only be described as reckless behaviour. The types of posts that talk about how so and so ate such and such a car doing x mph etc. It is these types of posts that encourage people to try and mimic this same stupid behaviour - lets see my car with xyz mods can drill abc car with def mods.
What Im attempting to say is that we all know what the specifications and capabilities of the various cars are, and from time to time we all speed etc, but it scares me when I read the postings of what some people are bragging about and the types of races that they are engaging in, and it is these types of postings that in my mind really should not be encouraged.
I dont for a moment expect people to not modify their cars, enjoy the ride and enjoy the car, but act responsibly!!! It concerns me that the type of entry being made in some of the postings is simply irresponsible and therefore should be condoned.

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
Your context no matter out of jest or not still portrayed that her activity was okay, it doesn't matter if you were joking about it or not. If you are that adomantly concerned about street racing you should be consistent in your tone and concern. To add I'm sure a lot of people that read that post cannot assume what your exact intentions were, so next time you should be aware of what you post.
My argument was perfectly logical, it was an analogy that compared the fact that you stated we shouldn't talk about certain things because it only encourages it, and if we stop talking about it, it will go away. My example asked you that , if you think talking about those issues only condones them? and that just because adults engage in a discussion about certain things it doesn't mean that they necessarily condone or encourage it. I wasn't specifically talking about those issues in any way, I was trying to make a point that we shouldn't discourage people here on this forum for talking about things that they are doing as long as it follows the guidelines of the forum. Just because we stop talking about street racing isn't going to make it any safer on the roads, that's all I was saying. Let me give you another analogy about that comment you made to that girl. Here is me making a comment out of jest to someone who just murdered someone...."You go boy!" Now, with that said do think I am A. For murder or B. against murder. Now take the context of that phrase and you would automatically assume that I am for murder and have no problem with it. This is what your previous comment looked like saying to that girl what you did. I know that subject that I used as an example is very sensitive with some people but I chose to use it to make a strong point. Please don't misconstrue that I think murder and all those other things are okay. All I am doing is giving you my opinion.
You say you are so concerned, but your post to that girl no matter what your tone or context would say otherwise.
What scares me is that in essence you are trying to spread a form of censorship in a public forum by telling people that we shouldn't talk about something. Let the kids talk about street racing for gods sake! (Please, the term kids was meant figuratively so all you young bucks don't get your panties all bunched up!)

Colin, I rspect your post despite the fact that I'm a "spirited driver." I may have more to say if this thread stays open.
ILust4G and Mule65, if you like arguing, then exchange phone numbers and do it that way, but otherwise, stop waisting our time.
I hate to have to post this again, but I think I have to... oh, and feel free to put this through a spell check.
Image link removed. Not for the main content, but for the unacceptable language in the fine print at the bottom of it. Fuzz that out and repost it if you like. -Ryo

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
2k2,
I never wanted to argue, all I did was state my opinion and then I was insulted my mule65 for that reason alone. I did not attempt to insult anyone in anyway. After his comments I felt compelled to defend myself, that's all. Like I said in another post, I think of it as all fun and games, and if people didn't react adversely to one another every once in awhile, it wouldn't be as entertaining here. Please don't say we are waisting your time...you are wasting your own time, my friend, by choosing to read our silly comments. You should be able to tell immediately if this thread was going to have any value to you, and thus "not waist your time"
Your illustration was good and your point taken, but that is harsh man, very harsh.(Using retards to make an example out of someone) :-)

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
Back to the original subject of road-racing, over on Contour.Org, they ban all street racing topics. Who knows in this litigous society what can happen to the admin of a site where road-racing stories are condoned. Over there, as long as you start the thread by indicating you raced at the track or went autocrossing, they don't have any problems. Personally, a website isn't going to encourage me to do something I wouldn't do otherwise. Just like listening to rap isn't going to turn me into a gun-toting thug 4 life. But to each their own.

Not for nothing. But I hope when you guys see my Signature it makes you respect and think about what can happen when you have an auto accident.
My .02 cents.

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
It just seems so silly to me that this society has become so sensitive to the things that are inevitable in life and are all realities that many of us have to face whether we like it or not. Not talking about something will not solve anything or make these things go away. Next thing we know, we can't talk about receiving speeding tickets because it condones bad driving habits, I mean c'mon how far does it go and where is the line drawn. Rational people don't do things just because they see it on tv or read it on a website. The people that let these mediums influence them are unstable in the first place and will end up doing something stupid no matter what and people that witness this or affected by this will always try to blame someone else for that persons behavior. Maybe we should just eliminate all violence, sex, drugs, etc. from the movies, tv, internet and anything else so we can start blaming the individuals who are doing these irresponsible things. To stay on the subject, let people talk about street racing and quit trying to censor what they have to say. There is always someone that will be offended by what another person has to say, this is the beauty of diversity and is what makes the world go around.
Jm, I think your comment about being a litigious society is true, but I doubt a case as such will ever reach litigation.

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
I was hoping you wouldn't have to post Merlin. My thoughts are still with you and your family.
Bottom line gents...streetracing doesn't really prove anything about the participants car/driver ability save for staying out of trouble. The only true test is on the track or other closed circuit, especially when placed in proper entry classes (ie..stock or mods). Anyone who has ever gone lap after lap on a track aggressively, with competition, knows how mentally and physically testing it is. Far more than a blast down a (hopefully) deserted street or highway as well as far safer. Plus you REALLY get to ring out your ride. The grins are much bigger in the pits than in the parking lots. Just my $0.02.

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
Merlin,
It is very unfortunate that you've had to deal with this and for that I send my condolences. I wish it was as easy as saying that all street racing should stop, and for that matter drug abuse, victims of violence, or anything else that would harm our innocent children and family. Unfortunately it will never stop (I also understand having that attitude won't help either) and the only things that all of us can do to affect our little corner of the world is to educate our children and teach them about respecting others, and the consequences of not doing so. From my perspective I find it hard to even run into courteous people on the streets on a day to day basis. This constant rush and lack of respecting other drivers also put innocent people in harms way. I do what I can, and let people come over to my lane when they put there blinker on, or when they want to pull out into the road. That is how I try to help, but at the same time...Now please don't patronize me for saying this but If there are two lanes on a very empty street with no cross streets I won't turn down a challenge, I pick and chose my battles for what I think is somewhat responsible...now I know I'm not alone because otherwise there wouldn't be anyone to race. One thing I don't do is race when there is a lot of traffic or residential areas. I guess my point is until it hits home people will do what they want and there is really not much any of us can do about it. Again, I am sorry Merlin for what you have had to go through.

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
Everyone,
All I am saying is that whether you are racing or just driving extra fast down a deserted street, to just remember that $h!T happens. Someone can pull out from a side street, debris in the road, mechanical failure etc.
Don't get me wrong I like speed as much as the next person, maybe more sometimes. But even before Andrew had his accident (Not racing BTW) I think twice before I do anything and even then still think about how I drive.
Remember it is not only you dying alone in an accident and not injuring or taking anyone else with you when it happens. Think about the people that Love you that you leave behind. Believe me you do NOT want to do this to your Family and Friends, by leaving unresolved things behind.
I am not sitting to preach or criticize. Just want you to think about it twice before.......
Take care and drive safely.

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
To tell the truth, without the bottom part of the message on the pic, it it isn't quite as good. But that isn't the issue.
When I think about it, i have posted at least once about racing, if not more. And when i did, I had reservations. I was thinking: if someone on the thread got in an accident while racing, and killed someone, then these (racing) threads might be used in court. In that case, I don't think the threads would come up too favorably in the courts eyes.
On the other hand, lining up on the highway next to a nother car, giving the signal and letting loose is something that some of us do. Talking about it is something we also do... where is the line drawn?
Perhaps when someone is doing it all of the time and being outright reckless. So here's the way i see it. If your talking about getting the jump on some other car on open roads and giving it a push to reasonable speeds, that's one thing. Talking about pushing through traffic, weaving or just driving too fast, then keep it to yourself (if only to save yourself from future litigation.)

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
Well, ive been afk from the forums for awhile now cuz of school but this thread really caught my eye, anyways heres a few words.
Tragedies happen in any sort of scenario, even the most safest activities can yield horrific results. Does this mean should we all stop roadracing? No, this is a questoin of responsibility. If a person is going 50 in a 60 zone and then another guy comes up beside him and entices the person to take it up to say 70 and who can get there fastest, is that irresponsible roadracing?
The problem lies that roadracing from an obvious standstill done in an inappropriate place is what gives roadracing a bad name, It is within all our powers to have judgement, and each of us has our own set of judgements but the law is here such that there is a standard judgement. While it may frown upon roadracing, it does not mean that its a morally wrong thing to do.
The solution to roadracing is the easier legalization of drag strips and more businesses allowed to make dragstrips where racing can be done in a legal and safe setting. The problem is that politicians see us as a minority and dont care to help solve these problems of making easier to make drag strips more easily available. So if you really care about roadracing, then call your congressmen (Member of Parliment, here in Canada) and let them know that we DO want legal drag strips set up. We want a safe alternative where we can do what we like undersafe conditions and not resort to public street racing.
Anyways thats my 2 cents

Re: Stop bragging about road racing
I dont really accept the notion that we are sufficiently responsible to be able to know when it is safe to race or not - too many people have this "It wont happen to me - Im too clever, skilled etc" attitude. All that it takes is a small something, to cause permanent damage to either body, soul or both of ourselves and / or loved ones.
I agree, not talking about something will not cause it to go away. What Im saying is that we should remove the forum from where people are gaining access to a platform to brag about stupid things.
If nothing else Im glad to have sparked active debate - hopefully someone will think twice next time.....

wimp!
the G35 is made for spirited driving! if i had the G35 id be doing the same thing im doing with my M3, dishing out alot of hurt on the ricers! im not gonna race if theres traffic but if the conditions are right im always game for a race. sorry if you think im reckless but its how i am and nothing is going to change it. whats the point of buying a sports sedan if youre never going to drive it like its meant to be driven?
