Viet, do you have some of that mesh?
You don't want that mesh! Trust me. Get the Custom Auto Mesh stuff, it is much better. That mesh is metal and the paint for some reason started to turn white!?!?

The custom auto mesh, mesh is plastic and has more of an OEM look to it.

I was talking to a buddy and he mention that the drifters now are using rhino lining on the back of their bumpers to beef them up some. What do you guys think.

yeah, I spoke to Viet after I posted - he said the same thing... the pics don't show the flaws 'cause it looks pretty good in the ones you posted (or my laptop screen sux )

Anyway, I'm gonna use the Custom Auto Mesh - thanks for the heads-up

The shop I spoke to said they are going to use a coating like that then sand it down smooth and paint/clear over it.

Is that what they do to stop rock chips? If so, then we all need that coating

I don’t think it will do any good for rock chips, since the paint and clear goes over it… however, since the bumper is fiberglass it might help with strength and keep it from cracking if it gets hit hard.

Tim, is this what you are using it for? If it works I might consider it… I wonder how thick it ends up being?

the fiberglass resin chips which brings the paint with it. The paint can't hold it together by itself.

in a couple months time I had more rock chips in the fiber bumper than 1+ year with the OEM.

insteresting... and discouraging ... many of us plan to clear bra ours... do you think that would be enough? If not will the truck bed liner spray fix the issue?

What they were talking about was to help with rock chips. The outside gel coat on the fiberglass bumpers is very brittle and can crack with small rocks. With good prep, paint and flex clear you can avoid a lot but not everything. I'm going to try what they want to do and still make a clear bra for it too.

so you're going to have prep/primer, then the bedliner stuff, then prep/primer & paint (w/flex agent?), then flex clear coat, then clear bra... correct?

Truck bed liner stuff that is done by say Line-X is a multi stage process. There's the undercoating which is the bulk of the lining and than the texture coating. Both can be put on in varying degrees of thickness.

Test fit your bumpers before doing anything like this. Tolerances at points where it meets headlights, grille, fenders etc are tight for a reason.... so it fits.

Be prepared to sand and remold transitions it anything is laid on thick.

This is my worse case thought, no rebuttal is needed by anyone. I just want to say it fits before any kind of coating has been added.

Very true!!

Best to have your car at the shop while they paint this so they can test fit as needed.

thats why I was asking Eddie how thick it is... not only do I NOT want to effect the fitment, I don't want to alter the shape either... a thick coat and sanding could chance the shape a bit (even if only minutely)...

I think I'm going to have a big protective steel box welded around my beautiful bumper
