Question Questions with Plenum install

Ok, so while I was out of town, I had my father (mechanic) install my Motordyne 5/16 Iso Thermal Spacer. No problems, what so ever, said it took him about an hour. But in the kit I received, there is a coolant control valve kit. (I can take pics if needed) He didn't install that. He also saw no need to reset the ECU or Resetting the throttle body which are optional steps in the directions as well.

My question is, what is the coolant control valve kit really for? From reading the instructions, it sounds like if the temp outside is above 55 degrees, the valve should remain closed for "best performance" and if the temp outside is below 55 degrees, should remain open.

Can anyone elaborate a little more?

Thanks,

Nathan

The coolant control valve lets you dictate whether coolant goes up to the throttle body to keep it from freezing. If you're above 50-55 degrees most of the time in your area you can keep it closed at all times (like me in socal) It stops the hot coolant from the motor heating up the throttle body, so you get more cold air into the plenum.

it basically shuts the flow of coolant to the throttle body. since its pretty warm all year round here in jax you can probably install it or you can actually bypass the coolant lines all together with a t-fitting. It will help keep the intake temps down by not having the hot coolant to heat the intake charge. might as well install it, it wont hurt to put it on.

^ +1 also, it is very easy to install. I suggest spray painting the valve black for a cleaner, stealthier install.

The gas pedal is more responsive. Push down and it goes...

it makes quite a bit of difference in plenum temp readings... I did a bunch of various readings during the beta testing... whether or not you will feel this in terms of power? Probably not in and of itself - but as with most mods, it's a combination of many things that make a performance difference... and we all get to a point in modding that every little bit helps… and when you can cost efficiently help keep plenum temps down it worth doing.

When my motor was out I took those lines off completely and did a full bypass.
