Someone tried to break into the X. Grr..
Someone tried to break into the X. Grr..
Well, looks like someone tried to break into my dads G35X. The lowlife scum used a flathead screwdriver to try and unlock the door, and when they realized that that wouldnt work, they tried to pry the handle off. My dad wasnt going to call the insurance company to have it fixed, but this morning we were going to put the cover on the car and i decided to try and use the key, not the transmitter, to get into the car....Ha Ha Ha. Key wont go in. So my dad WILL be getting it fixed, but we're concerned that the X is at risk. Never really thought about it much before, but the car IS VERY DESIREABLE and throw in the video navagation and i'm sure that alone could get someone some good $. What can you guys recomend? The car alarm didnt go off (at least that we know of), and I have a suspicion that it happend in our driveway because yesterday afternoon, at precisely 1:50, I was getting in the car and noticed a little scuff mark above the door handle, wiped it off with my finger, then looked over the rest of that side of the car to see if there were any other marks. I think i would have noticed the HUGE gouged out part by the keyhole, and then the missing paint on the side of the handle.....and after i dropped myself off at my friends house (i only have a permit so my dad was with me), my dad drove the G35x home and parked it there, and when he came out again, he noticed the marks. I know that car alarms are practically useless nowadays, noone pays attention to them, but what types of aftermarket alarms are you guys using? I think that in this case, something that starts making noise if someone touches the car is what we need.
Would it be worth tinting the windows to 20% (Legal limit here in MA) help to make the video nav. buttons less obious? (we keep the screen down unless were using it, but the buttons are a dead giveaway)
We havnt been using the car cover at all (until we put it on this morning) because living in NewEngland you have all the road salt, freezing weather, dirt/sand that splashes up on the car, and its too cold to wash the car, but we dont wanna scratch the paint with the cover.....
Anyone else have any experience with people trying to get into the G?
We are in the process of building a 2 car garage, so it WILL be parked in a garage by next winter (sooner, probably)
And not that i'm not up for some fun, but we are NOT in south africa, so please....dont waste this post with the flamethrower alarms and no, we are NOT going to push tons of electricity through the car so that anyone who touches it gets 'well done'
Serious ideas/comments only, please. I left my post at supercars.net for those (and trust me, I got them. lol)
Thanks
-Chris

Re: Someone tried to break into the X. Grr..
That's funny, I'm from South Africa and one of my friends who still lives in Joburg has the flamethrower on his car a Lexus IS300, Seriously though not alot you can do, i have not had good experience with aftermarket alarms they all suck and don't work properly.

That's too bad, people suck sometimes! Just FYI, the alarm that is with the G, only goes off if the door has been opened without the keyfob, they didn't gain entry, did they? And I agree, a lot of aftermarket alarms send false alarms, vibrations, a cat, etc set them off sometimes. Hope you have better luck coming!

Re: Someone tried to break into the X. Grr..
Well we'd much rather have it chirp a few times if a cat walks by and if someone tries to 'strike' again, since the person obiously didnt know what they were doing, it would sorta startle them...
No, they did not gain entery, just messed up the door handle :-(

Re: Someone tried to break into the X. Grr..
Sorry to hear that! I just got my x last week and I can only imagine my disappointment if the same were to happen to me, what more if the thief actually made off w/ it!
I never really thought about how desirable the car was to thieves either because to me the g's are so subtle and understated. I hope that doesn't happen again...but if u cant keep ur car safe in the driveway, what can u do?

That has to be the most curtious would be thief I have ever heard of. The last time I got a car broken into, they broke two windows! I guess it was quicker than folding down the front seat to get to the rear... that was a COLD ride home since it was in December!

I have a compustar 2wss. It's a 2-way alarm, so if someone sets off the warning chirp or the alarm itself, the remote starts beeping and vibrating and shows what part of the baby is being violated. The 2wss also has claims of a range up to 1.5 miles in open field. I have personally gone .75 miles away form the car with success. www.compustar.org

That sucks! Where about in MA do you live? I'm in NW subs of Boston and was just curious. Also, I just had my tint done in Billerica and the total limit is 35%.

A theif trying to break into your car with a screwdriver isn't going to get anywhere with it. The immobilizer system would be enough to keep him from moving the car.
It sucks to have to deal with the damage, though.

Re: Someone tried to break into the X. Grr..
Yeah, thats why i think that they were either just like super stupid instead of just stupid, or they were going for the video nav. or some other parts of the car.
I'm actually in the town over from Billerica, sorta near Lowell
Its just disapointing that we cant even trust people in our own neighborhood. Its a good neighborhood, mostly familes with kids, there of course is the group of druggies but theyre not the gang type of people and they dont seem to have any desire to steal any higher-end cars like Infiniti.....
A toyota or honda, maybe....but i wouldnt think that they'd be interested in an infiniti....
Well, thats why were building the garage....to put the G35 and my Camaro when i get it....the Cadillac Catera i'm using now has sat in the driveway for the last few months without even a cat or bird touching it....and that that i've left it unlocked some times :-x
Oh well, we'll see what happens.....

Re: Someone tried to break into the X. Grr..
That doesn't even make sense.. the nav system isn't something a thief could steal quickly, it has parts and sensors in too many places. Even the radio in this car would be worthless to ripoff. Unless you had a laptop computer or some cash lying in plain view, I don't see why anyone would try to break into the car.
And if it were a professional thief, the car would simply be gone.

Re: Someone tried to break into the X. Grr..
Yeah, for sure, a professional would have made off with it, maybe he just got some "hoodlums" (bet you haven't heard that word in a while ) vandalizing stuff, who knows! Doesn't sound like he lives in a bad area, but generally, the idiots who do stuff like this, come from other parts of town, not your neighbors!

Re: Someone tried to break into the X. Grr..
yeah true...
but you have to remember, whoever tried to get in was obiously not very inteligent, so if they knew that there was a video nav. system in the car, do you think that they would stop and think 'oh, how am i going to get the whole thing out?'
Pretty much the only thing in the car that was in view from the windows would be about 3 'BOOKS ON TAPE' things from the library (my dad drives to NY alot, enjoys listening to them)
Its just going to be a P.I.T.A. to have to go through insurance and crap and then to get it repaired.... (Hey, maybe they'll fix the little scratch on the back bumper while theyre at it....lol)
Its just that feeling that someone has touched something important that belongs to you, and it wasnt in a good way.....
it would be like finding out that some stranger that noone knows sat down with your kid at a playground and wrote the numbers 1-200 on your kids back.....
Its wrong, it didnt really hurt anyone, it can fairly easily be washed off, it makes no sense whatsoever, and you have to go on knowing that some sicko was doing strange things with your kid....its just a bad feeling like you cant trust anyone....know what i mean?

You win the "Most Random Analogy" award. Congrats.
The reason I got my TW-I alarm was because of crap like that. It doesn't give me false alarms unless someone with MAD bass parks RIGHT next to me and turns it up. BUT, if you just put an elbow lightly into the window, it'll go off. When it does go off, the alarm on my keychain goes off too, which is usually within earshot of me.
