I hear a single click when brake is applied.

The title more or less covers it. Just picked up an 05 AT sedan (replacement to the recently totaled one.) When driving, every time I press the brake pedal, I hear a click from the gauge cluster area. As I understand it, this is to be expected while in park, due to shift lock, but not quite sure if this is normal while driving. I'm curious if anyone else encountered this.

Thanks

It sounds like you are just hearing the brake switch click. No big deal. You can test with the car off - press the brake slowly and see if that's what you are hearing.

He said "I hear a click from the gauge cluster area." The brake switch is by the brake pedal, isn't that right?

There is a small solenoid that unlocks the shifter so that when you move from Park or Neutral to drive or reverse, the brake is on also to prevent the car from jumping. the click is the solenoid backing the small locking arm to the shifter so you can shift. very normal... what's not normal is to not hear the clicking sound, that usually means that there is a problem with the assembly somewhere.

It turned out to be a solenoid. From what I was told, the later 05's the clicking sound was a lot more pronounced than earlier versions. The new one seems to have taken care of it though.

That clicking sound is in my 02 Toyota Sienna
my 02 Honda Accord

So did you need to fix anything, or just left it that way?

They replaced the solenoid. You still hear a faint sound when you apply breaks, but nowhere as noticeable as before.
