Re: Dyno Poll-- would you contribute?

Sedan guys,

I posted the below information in coupe forum and would like to do the same here.

I strongly believe we need the DYNO forum since it brings nothing else but benefit for all to see what other G35 cars (sedans/coupes) doing comparing to your own, from factory stock to FI (forced induction) and see before/after numbers as you or somebody else add more mods.

Dynos are a great tool, but the information they provide can easily be misinterpreted and end up creating a lot of confusion in the end.

Therefore, all who run DYNO should use industry standard Dynojet 248c with SAE numbers only

So if you dyno a car at 200 whp on a Dynojet, and then somebody else dynos their same car at 212 whp on a Dynapack, it doesn't mean their car is more powerful (assuming both stock), just that that type of dyno reads higher and that's it.

For all, please call your DYNO shop and ask before going if they have a Dynojet and it can deliver SAE numbers

Note For your convenience here is the link to see what shops in each state are offer DYNOJET. Under North America - select your state and call them for pricing. You should get better deals once you become 'permanent' customers.

What would be more useful than just a forum with stock dyno numbers.. would be something like .. here's my new stillen cAI..and here's my dyno numbers from it (baseline, and after the mod)

Feel free to move this, but here's my commitment to making a contribution... Dyno of my 2004 6MT sedan after installing Vortech supercharger and Stillen exhaust. Measurement was taken using a Dynojet 248c w/ SAE correction.

Re: Dyno Poll-- would you contribute?

I would like to make one further request. Anyone providing Dynojet numbers should also:
1) Report the SAE correction factor that was applied
2) Note the temperature at the time of the test
3) Note the barometric pressure at the time of the test
4) Note the humidity
5) Note the test elevation.

Items 2-4) can be cross-checked with the local weather report. This is important, because the *you would be amazed* at the number of bogus SAE correction factors that are sometimes applied to the data. Checking the environmental conditions yourself are the only way to verify this.

Zimbo,
Awesome numbers

RogRacer,
Once we get the Dyno Forum (I hope) we can state the rules, good points anyway.

By the way, so far I noticed 11 might and 8 will contribute for sedan. Coupe guys are doing better 27 might and 15 will.

A quick note about the psychology of surveys; "might" = probably won't, "will" = might Believe it or not, I had to take a class on this... biggest waste of time ever. Anyway, numbers look good-

Re: Dyno Poll-- would you contribute?

In the opinion of many mechanics and high performance enthusiasts, the DynoJet is inferior to the accuracy of the Mustang Dyno...It's only fair to bring that up...A very experienced technician that I know has gotten consistently inaccurate results using DynoJet and swears by Mustang, going as far as to purchase one for his new shop

Re: Dyno Poll-- would you contribute?

I would love to contribute, as I plan on modifying my G35X very soon. The only problem is that I would have a hard time on a 2-wheel Dynojet.......(not trying to be a smarta$$)

Re: Dyno Poll-- would you contribute?

RogRacer hit the nail on the head. Way too many uncontrolled dyno reports floating around. I can give you 2% of your ponies back with only 10 degrees ambient temp or an inch of mercury.

I'd be all for it and a contributor seconding Rogs suggestions.

Re: Dyno Poll-- would you contribute?

In order to make dynos more consistent we will create rules:
1) Dynojet only
2) SAE numbers only
3) State temperature, humidity
4) In what gear dyno was performed
5) State the list of mods or if its stock
6) State the transmission type (5AT or 6MT).

That way we can have more consistent variables to compare and learn. In addition, I listed plenty of Dynojet (industry standard) facilities in each state.
