I understand your math.. but IMO, you have forgot to factor in that with your 10" rim, the 275 will be stretched ALOT more than a 275 on the 8.5" rim. Same principle applied on the JDM VIP style, where people can fit in rims with crazy offset because they stretch their tires like SHXt... like 255 on a 10" rim.. such that the side wall is so stretched that their is phyiscally NO RUBBER on the side to rub the fender...

I agree it will bulge and not stretch but I don't think it will bulge 10mm on each side. Maybe it will...

There are a number of people with 275's on 8.5" coupe wheels.
