Question 2004 G35 ... wants more horsepower!

Hey guys, does anyone have any suggestions for addons that can improve my horsepower? KN Airfilter, different exhaust, etc. Not looking to spend thousands...perhaps up to $750. Thanks!

Most popular mods for the Sedan are:

*Z-tube/Pop Charger combo
*Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer
*Coupe middy with HKS rear section

This will probably put you over budget but probably the cheapest and most efficient mods you can do.

BTW- Since youre a noobie and most folks on here dont take lightly to noobs, here's some advice: USE SEARCH before posting anything. You can find most answers that way and you wont get jacked for reposts. Good Luck.

Without spending a lot of money, the best bang for the buck for power are:

Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer (or other spacer/plenum)
K&N filter
350Z plastic intake tube
G coupe midpipe

Also, how much of a horsepower increase are we talking about with some of these mods?

Do a SEARCH on that part. People have posted dyno's from these.

Those mods are definately the most bang for the buck. intake, exhaust, spacer will cost you more than $750, but should get you over 15hp to the wheels which will take about .1 to .2 sec off your 1/4 mile time.

What kind of performance are you looking for?

if you want a lot of power go FI... or start saving up for the GT-R like me

I have all of the above, and never heard, nor was I under the impression that the Z-tube nor the coupe middy increase power . It's my understanding that these are solely for sound and don't increase power. Am I wrong?

Well it doesn't look like I'm going to get much more horsepower for my money...perhaps I could just get something that makes the car sound a little more masculine and make me subconsciously feel better....recommendations???

No, you are mostly right. Only "proven" increase out of those mods are felt in the reliable butt dyno

If you want more sound, get z-tube / coupe middy...if you want HP only, the plenum spacer is a must to add a few ponnies.

1) Get a MD 5/16" Spacer or equivalent plenums
2) HFCs
3) Get a tune

The coupe midpipe is 25 pounds lighter than the sedan midpipe and must have better flow too. It may not add hp, but it sheds some weight that allows the hp that is there to become more useful.

The Z tube may or may not add hp, but it allows air to flow into the throttle body a little better than the G tube with its baffles and has about the same results as much more expensive intakes. That's what makes these two items a bang for the buck.

Face it, add all of the bolt ons available for the VQ, without opening the motor or adding NOS of FI, and you might make 30 extra hp at the expense of several thousand dollars. The 03-04 only has 260 hp anyway.
