install question.....???

just installed iso thermal plenum space but didnt install the "coolant control valve" didnt make any sense to me to stop antifreeze from flowing. does it really give me anymore power...? also does anyone know the logic behind the valve??

It keeps the hot coolant in the engine from running up to the throttle body. The throttle body heats up, therefor the air going into your engine is not as cold as it can possibly be. The colder the air, the more power you're going to make. So, YES, it does serve a purpose and is a very logical and functional part of the Motordyne ISO Thermal kit. Tony at Motordyne wouldnt have gone through all his research and included a piece in the kit that didnt make sense to be there.

G'dup answered this perfectly well, but since I've seem the same question before on InfinitiFX.org and responded with an extensive answer there, I submit it to you here:

I would agree that the Iso-Thermal components don't directly add horsepower by their basic presence alone, however to say that they don't add horsepower when it would normally be lost under certain conditions is incorrect.

The purpose of installing an Aramid gasket (temperature-resistant fiber, http://www.aramid.com/ ) between the intake manifold and the lower plenum is to significantly reduce heat transfer between these two metal parts. By reducing heat transfer, the upper and lower plenum run at cooler temperatures. Likewise, the purpose of installing the MD Coolant Control Valve is to keep the coolant system from heating the throttle body in ambient temperatures over 55 degrees. By keeping the throttle body and plenums cooler, the intake air is also cooler. Cooler air increases density (Ideal Gas Law), and so a set volume of cool air has more actual air and fuel in it than the same volume of hot air.

In other words, the point of the Iso-Thermal kit is to help maintain cooler intake air, which does improve engine performance during combustion. Ask anyone that has driven their vehicle in cooler temps versus hotter temps; cooler air helps the engine to provide more power. Consequently, the iso-thermal components don't add horsepower, but in situations where hot intake air would reduce power output of the engine, the iso-thermal components help maintain the power that the engine normally produces.

I think it's worth installing. After all, you did pay for it. It's not any harder to install that the spacer was.

Here in Florida, I leave the coolant valve turned off all year long. In colder climates, you can turn it on in the winter to warm the TB and close it back off in spring.
