hit drive shaft

i hit a freaking 18 wheeler drive shaft gong 80mph on 1-95, coming home from NYC this week end. there is a fist size chunk missing from where the oil pan meets the block. my question is, will the insurance replace the WHOLE engine or just the block? the car is at herb chambers infiniti.

Gee. I don't know. Did you ask your insurance company? Seeing as how they will be footing the bill, they'll be the only ones who can answer your question.

Glad you're okay and here to write about it. That could have been horrible.

Looking at your mods, they may say the collision was your fault because your car is lowered.

Hmmm. Wonder if it would have cleared at stock height?

Where I live 4 inches is the legally required clearance. Is your clearance less than 4 inches?

Dang 20k....consider ur car totalled by the insurance......most insurance if damages are over 5k they consider salvage or totalled.

damn...the sound at impact must've been horrible. I've ran over a rock on my Civic Si @ 30 mph before and it was the most horrible sound i've heard. It ended up cracking my oil pan. I cant imagine this one... Good luck with your repairs!

I would imagine the insurance company would rather pay you to get a new car, which is kinda sad. 20K is alot, but maybe you'll get lucky... especially if you have low miles on the car. I hope your insurance agent likes you

I know it kinda sux on your end. But I cant stop laughing

Freaking DRIVE LINE

hahahahaha

That fvcking thing is huge.

I lost few of those on my watch.

Never fell out completely but sure made an attempt to.

Lost plenty tires from my trucks also.

GL with the repair.

and 20K is a bit steep. it cost 18k to replace 6 cylinder diesel engine a size of a miata in the Semi Truck.

How does dealership come up with such a magic numbers?

Damn that really bites...I hit a piece of rebar that punched two holes in my exhaust one time. Thats nothing compared to you. Here is a link to a built and fully sealed and assembled motor for @ 5500. So either there is a lot more damage than you think or your getting gouged, or a little of both!
good luck. My Dad was a fireman and he has seen someone nailed to thier seat via a drive shaft, so a car is a car you are still here and thats what counts....
