G35 gurus - good deal?

Hi all, been surfing for a few days deciding on a G.

2006 G35 33k miles $20,000 - car is 17 months old.

Carfax is clean, says I have 29 mo or 29000 on warranty. 1 owner.

New tires acc to owner. Admitted over phone it has some "brake shimmy" in front (pads?)

If it seems good, I will spend the 100$ to get a pre-buy inspection done just to evaluate what (if any) weaknesses there are. But i have already spent 100 on a different one that ended up pretty bad (an accident not found on carfax was revealed), and not in mood to keep tossing hundreds out there....

One confusing thing is it HAS the spoiler but it does not have 5 spoke rims. So is it a sedan w/ aftermarket spoiler or a "sport" kit? I have read elsewhere here that 5 spokes = sport kit, and I have not gotten close enough to scout for other indicators.

Thanks all.

The spoiler with the 5-spoke factory rims is an indicator for the 2003-2004 G35 sedan with the Sport package (not available for the '05-'06 models). That also includes sport suspension kit (springs and struts) and in some cases the aero (Nismo) body kit.

I'd be hesitant to look further into the '06 G in question if it turns out that it had a previous accident which was not shown on the Carfax report. That's just my opinion. Who knows what other hidden things have been done to the car which would not benefit to the next owner's satisfaction...

i probably did not phrase this correctly. THIS car (pictured above = no accidents). I just wanted to see what yall thought of it b/c i took ANOTHER G in and spent 100 on a pre-buy inspection that revealed an undisclosed wreck on THAT other car.

It is a great deal if you ask me. Only if it has a clean title.

99% sure that the Aero package (side skirts and spoiler) is completely separate from the sport package (firmer suspension, 18s in 05-06). You dont see it too often but its possible to have a 5at with the aero package but no sport package. One way to tell if the wing is aftermarket is if there is still a brake light in the rear window. If you have questions about what options are available on what cars, go to the 'models' section of infinitihelp.com.

Brake "shimmy" is usually caused by warped brake rotors (maybe $250 if its just fronts). Rotors warp due to excess heat and brake use so it has probably been driven "spiritedly" but it's not really a sign of anything wrong with the car. I've also been told that shimmy can be from severely uneven pad wear, but i dont know if i believe that.

Car looks nice and definitley not a bad price. Good luck.

$20k for an '06 sounds really good! Do the pre-buy inspection if you feel necessary first through. But +1 on a deal that sounds good!

the dealer service guy thought I should be wary (just got off phone) b/c no maint records (at any infiniti dealer), and car has 33k miles. Seller confirmed no maint records. Ugh.

That really shouldn't be a problem if the you have a mechanic check it out and it checks out fine. Could be that he had maintenance done at other shops besides the dealer, which is common. I would definitely pay the $100 to get this one inspected first though.

This one is well below "dealer retail" which appears to be around 25k
