trunk release

what is that black piece of plastic under the green trunk release. I pulled it today and then i couldnt close my trunk so i had to take off the mat under my lid and push the wire back up??? is this normal and whats the function of this piece

thats a back up trunk release...in case you get kidnapped and you can open the trunk and run away. LOL you probably got it stuck on the open position so you had to push it back. Don't pull it for no reason, if you wanna play, pull the green one...the one that glows in the dark. LOL

I thought that was for the parachute.
