hammer and screwdriver method can wreak havoc to your bearings (aka impact method)... use the tried and true pressure method of pushing it out either with hydraulics or a large gear puller and most of the force is focussed on the stud (gear puller works in "reverse" to push out stud as it tries to pull on hub).

I had a similar incident. I had a speed sensor that was damaged on one of my front wheels. The part is about $160, and the dealer wanted another $220 to install it ($380 total). I ended up telling them to go F--- themselves, and did it myself. It took me 10 minutes to jack the car up, remove the wheel, remove 1 bolt and 1 harness, and then put it back together. Needless to say, my respect for Infiniti's service went way down.

I dont know why so many of you go straight to the dealer for replacement parts. Most of the time I find the aftermarket parts to be of superior quality.

If you have a free spinning stud with the lug still on it, then you are looking at a major pain in the a$$.
This happened to a friends G35. It took us 6~8 hours to drill through it

Damn, Doug. You could have taken it to Sears and it would have only costed $80-100 bucks. Orlando Infiniti got you...

Thanks for the responses guys. After reading them, I could've picked one of two different routes: Taking it to Discount Tire since I have road hazard warranty on all 4 tires (not sure how that would apply to wheel studs but I guess it apparently worked for GeeWillikers), or going to Sears for half the price what Orlando Infiniti charges. Believe me, I'm still kicking myself for going to the dealer to replace just one wheel stud.

Neal376, thanks for including the DIY write-up for replacing wheel studs, but I wouldn't go so far as calling Nissan wheel studs an "aftermarket" part since it is still OEM. Also tools like breaker bars, socket adapters, floor jacks and jack stands were not immediately available at the time this incident happened, and I'm not about to lay down $100+ for parts I'm barely gonna use.

no, obv i consider nissan parts OEM as well. I purchased my studs at my local autozone for less than 2 dollars a pop. Any dealer anywhere would love to more than quad-ripple that price. I still find nissan expensive...infiniti dealers? forget it! The only time I go to my dealer is for warranty work.

My mother took my G in when I was out of the country once because the CEL illuminated. They robbed her of $200 (give or take) to pretty much disconnect the battery to reset the ECU. It turned out that the CEL was illuminated because the gas cap wasn't fully tightened. Now THAT'S robbery.

You should be able to get a quote over the phone for something like that. The dealer can be very reasonable about some things. A while back, I took my car there to get a nail taken out of the tire. I was in and out fast and it cost me less than what it would at discount tire.
