stock exhaust manifold

O.K. I heard that the exhaust in the G's is one of the differences in horsepower and that some people are switching them out.
I am plannig to try the y-pipe and midpipe change, using the 350z exhaust. (I know I will have to extend the midepipe)
My question is the difference or restrictions between the 350z and G35 coupe & sedan:
exhaust manifold
ypipe
midepipe
did the search but thought this was easier.
Thanks

Re: stock exhaust manifold

Whoa, in the strongest terms possible do not waste a cent, the exhaust manifold and Y-pipe's are all 100% the same oem wise between these cars(350Z, G35 coupe and G35 sedan). Now, the coupe's mid pipe, yeah that's different than the sedan's piece. That being said, the oem Y-pipe is terrible, and frankly the oem exhaust manifold doesn't impress me much either.

The Z and Coupe get performance mufflers, something the sedan does not get. Sedan's of course can't use a muffler from the the Z or Coupe since we have the spare tire wheel well in the way and a pretty complex emission's system as well in the wrong place (charcoal canister?).

Since headers are expensive to buy and installing then are very difficult to install, your also looking at, another $340 to install them. Next, up the oem cat's, replace them with Random tech cats or Kinetix cats, cat delete pipes are a option some have used. Next, the Y-pipe. NFC Motorsports http://www.nfcmotorsports.com/a.htmlmakes a cost effective Y-pipe that collect's to a flange the same size as the oem Coupe mid pipe. The Fujitsubo/Nismo and Jic Y-pipes collect to a larger 80mm diameter and would be handycapped(but far superior still to oem) when mated to a smaller 65mm system, not unless you installed a simple transition adaptor.

Frankly, theirs no reason why someone couldn't buy some mandrel bends, a flowmaster Y-collector and have a muffler shop make you a Y-pipe for less than you can buy one.

Re: stock exhaust manifold

thanks,
I asked because a freind gave me his exhaust from his 350z. (everything except cats).
I was also under the impression the pipe diameter was bigger.
I think i will try the midepipe and look into an aftermarket y-pipe or see what the exhaust shop can do.
Just one more observation I made and might not make a difference. I saw a photo of the sedan y-pipe, in brouchore, and shape was different then the coupe and Z.

Thanks again for the info....

Nope, diameters are the same around 55mm (around 2 1/4") off the cats and to the junction at the Y, then 2 1/2" or 65mm to the muffler.

Here's a ebay add from a 350Z guy trying to sell his Y-pipe.

I don't know what Y-pipe was mounted to the sedan photo you saw, but the Y-pipe on production vehicle's in the north america market are the same part for the Z, G coupe and G sedan.
